Author Biography: Amelia Ann Blandford Edwards (June 7, 1831 - April 15, 1892) was a novelist, journalist and Egyptologist, who wrote prolifically and precociously - her first poem was published at the age of 7; her first story at the age of 12. She enjoyed considerable success with her articles, stories and novels - including Barbara's History (1864) and Lord Brakenbury (1880) - but she became even more famous for her travel writing and her interest in the archaeology of Ancient Eygpt, founding the Eygpt Exploration Fund with Reginald Poole and working tirelessly to gain support and recognition for this cause. She is also remembered for her active involvement in the suffragettes' movement.
