Does that mean I have to put up the next blurb ?

It's been a dog's age since I was in the Sherlock game. ;)

Hint #1: The "lover" in question was an English Lord.

Why so quiet ... is there a 1 guess per day per person limit in effect ?

If so, let's up it to 2 ... as long as someone else goes in-between. ;)

Hint #2: My use and/or lack of capitalization was deliberate.

Was that queen held captive in a dismal prison (dungeon, jail, cave, whatever)
or in a relatively comfortable convent
or under house/room arrest in a luxurious palace/room?

Hint #3: The queen in question was imprisoned, rather than merely held under house arrest.

I'm sure she was one of those controversial, tempestuous English queens. Was she?

Hint #2a: In Americanized idiomatic English, there is a difference between a "queen" and a "Queen", because the former is slang and the latter is a title of royalty, and is therefore capitalized.

Hint #4: A "queen" is not a "Queen" when it is used as a slang reference to a flamboyant homosexual male. Thus, if you combine all the hints to date, we have:

"Snarky flamboyant homosexual pens brilliant introspective philosophical diatribe to his lover (an English Lord) while doing hard time in prison."

And yes, the book is in the IBDoF database.

2 out of 4 indeed.
I must reluctantly admit that you've lost me.
I was thinking of a Queen.

Hey, hey, no need to be so impatient! That last clue was what I needed to put me on the right track (Oscar Wilde)...bit more time and I would have come up with the title, too.
IPHIGENIE: Kann uns zum Vaterland die Fremde werden?
ARKAS: Und dir ist fremd das Vaterland geworden.
IPHIGENIE: Das ist's, warum mein blutend Herz nicht heilt.

In fact, after the suggestions of Rintintin and such, I thought the "queen" you meant was a female cat!

So who's up now?
In the 60’s, people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is weird and people take Prozac to make it normal.
