I have posed a couple of brainteasers recently in the Forum.
I would like to commemerate those who find the answer to "brainteasers" in a single thread - Hence
The Sherlock Thread
It would be great if others would like to also pose questions that can subsequently be put into this thread.
Basic rules
Question must be based around fiction - no real world questions here
Question can be posed in ANY fora/ thread - But to add to someones official score - must be copied/ quoted in THIS thread - either before or after being answered.
Answer must be posted in this thread [copied/ quoted is FINE] - preferrably by the person doing the actual answering.
The decision to award a Sherlock point is SOLELY made by the asker of the question. Arbitrary decisions that are obviously inaccurate WILL be honored - but may be deducted from the score of the asker if the judges deem it worthy of action [That's me! for now anyway...]
At some stage in the future if this becomes popular - I may install a mod to make it possible to track somebodies score...

The wonderful thing about not planning

Brad - I just realised I didn't congratulate you on your quick grasp of the implicit genesis of this fora -
As well as the secondary implicit challenge.
Excellent work watson!
you are herby awarded the 1st IBDOF Sherlock Holmes award!
[It means nothing and is dust beneath the feet of DOTDBI as well as your own other achievements - but I thought it was a fun little contest...]
The question was actually the name of the new fora set up to discuss the works of Robert Heinlein.
- Pan-Theistic Multi-Person Solipsism
The secondary challenge was of course the name of the Book that it was drawn from - the Author was of course stated.

I took a look for the original to see if I could give some hints from the surrounding context, and would you believe it? I couldn't find the quote!
I thought I was quoting Hazel Stone in "Space Family Stone" by Robert Heinlein. I searched for it - and couldn't find the phrase in that book! I have of course begun reading the book - it has been many years and I will enjoy it anyway - However - I feel that I really must award myself a penalty in the Sherlock Score.
So currently the ranking stands at:
2 Brad_H
-1 Kiltannen
If anybody DOES know the quote - I will award a bonus point - for each extra item found. So this Sherlock clue could be worth 3 points! [Name, Author, Book]
And hey - someone else can post - I want to see if I can figure any out!
[Although my record to date had not been great]

For One Point:
Name the book that starts out with a man walking through hot coals in Hawaii and when he comes out the other end he is in an alternate universe. (Gosh, I hope there is only one book out there like this)
I am starting easy for you guys to get warmed up... mine will be harder than this after.
So now for something a little harder... since we are all warmed up.
Name the two book series that deals with consumerism and advertising in the future. It is taken to such extremes that is is legal to add adictive substances to food that make you crave other foods and subliminal advertising that makes you fiercly brand loyal. The second book was published in 1984.
Kilt... just thought of a possible rule #5 (that yes, I am breaking with my current question...wait, it that another hint)
#5 the book in reference or a Sherlock question must be on the list of books on this site... so if you want to ask a question get the book on the lists.
And yes, after my question is answered I will give up the 411 to have it/them added.
Q: "allow me to esplain ..... no, no, there is too much, i will sum up". (<<<not an exact quote but i still think there should be a sherlock for identifying it)
A:
Trebor1503 Inego Montoyo from "The Princess Bride"?
Words of wisdom about hippies from Neil Young circa 1970:
"Soldiers are gunning us down,
Should have been done long ago."
