Ok, so next one :
How could someone scarier than anything make her feel safer?
Who is "her", who is the "someone" ? When, in which book ?

Blind guess: in "Beguilement", "her" is Fawn, the scarecrow is Dag. As for when, after she had the brush with the Malice he could hardly be "scarier than anything" so it has to be before that, but I don't remember an encounter after the very first one (when she thought he had not seen her) so I am at a loss: some other chance meeting after the first one and before the Malice adventure?

Ha, you're making it too easy for the next, so I'm going to count your answer right, but it's indeed after the Malice encounter. At the end of the day, the Malice is dead, but Dag is still walking ("limping, anyhow"), so he's more dangerous.

You're up for the next quote.

Well, indeed, after all, the Malice was dead and Dag was still there...

This is correct, but I asked where and in what circumstances. You have at least 1/2 sherlock, but, well, maybe I should do just as Caroline did?

Ah, just got lazy and forgot. This was when Miles had reappeared on Aslund station after he'd been sent there by Cavilo. Miles was meeting with Admiral Oser.

Please,
name the book, Memory
the place, Miles and Martin, his driver, are airborne in the lightflyer heading back to Vorbarr Sultanna the morning after Harra Crusik and her family held a party for MIles after he visited "The Raina Crusik School."
both characters Miles and Martin, his driver
and the third person which words is quoted. The Countess, aka Cordelia Naismith Vorkosigan

Great quote! I hunted through four books before I finally found it, bouncing back and forth between them.

YYY= Leo Graf

Jetta, by the way, there are rules in this game. Considering how well you seem to know the Vorkosiverse, I was lucky to answer before you had a chance to do so. But the rule is, one is not allowed to answer the question after one's own for five days. The restriction is only for the first question after one's own, so as soon as James confirms my answer and I post a new question, you'll be allowed to answer mine immediately, long before five days pass after James posted his. But if I had not answered nor had anyone else, you would have had to wait for 5 days before answering James' question.
Also the list of allowed books
- Vorkosiverse (including Falling Free)
- World of Chalion (_CoC_, _PoS_, _HH_)
- all four Sharing Knife books
- and Spirit Ring
On the other hand we have agreed not to ask quotes from the °Dreamweaver Dilemma_ collection, neither the novella with that titel nor the short stories published only there ("only" means that _MoM_ is of course allowed!)
I just gave, on your behalf, the sherlock James just won, so you'll see how it is done for the next time someone finds your quote. Etiquette is, one does not post one's own sherlock even when one knows the answer is correct (i.e., I'll wait for James to give me mine). I also rearranged the names on the "1 sherlock" line in alphabetical order, so you are still there but not at the end where nperry put you originally

So far nobody made his assumption yet, I'll try. Five days after my riddle's posting are over, BTW. :)

Miles asks himself whether he should tell new recriuted Taura about a bio-container in her leg or remove it secretly.
"Labirinth", the final part.

You did not have to wait! The five-days period is only for the first quesion after the one the player has posted. You would have had to wait 5 days before answering James's question (but I answered it earlier), but only James had to wait five days on mine.
jetta-e_rus wrote: Miles asks himself whether he should tell new recriuted Taura about a bio-container in her leg or remove it secretly.
"Labirinth", the final part.
Correct. Your turn, and I'll give you your second sherlock.
And I am the only one to have to wait 5 days now. Even James can answer as soon as you post if he guesses correctly.

Edit: Oops! I was too fast and not attentive enugh.
Your answer is not fully correct, but only mostly so.
Go on and post the next quote, anyway, but you get only 1/2 point.
The other 1/2 point is for the answer to my question
What did the thinker (indeed, Miles) do know that was not so?
Of course, you are allowed to answer, too, and get hte other half-pont yourself!

James, since the next quote has already been awarded to Jetta, the five-days "ping-pong" rule does not apply anymore and you may aswer for the second half-point at any time, no need to wait anymore.

It's his conscience of guilt. He was ready to kill "the unknown monster" but now he knows who Taura is and understands that he barely escaped a fatal error.

OK, I'll give you the second 1/2 point.
What I meant is, he "knew" the creature was a half-animal monster that he had to kill, when "what was so" is that she was a terrified young girl who could talk, think and weep (even a 8 foot tall one with fangs and claws, but a girl, young and terrified nonetheless)
In fact, look at my signature below: the human character of Taura is one of my favorite lines in Vorkosiverse.

Go ahead and post a new quote!

A new quote:
The Vor really are the sinews of the Imperium. If you don't like it, you can emigrate, but if you stay, this is the only game in town.
Book? When and where does this scene take place? Name two persons who talk. Whose phrase is it?

Memory, after visiting Simon at ImpSec headquarters, Miles and Haroche and it’s Cordelia’s.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animating contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you,
