Then my guess that it was Dag talking to Fawn in Beguilement (about Fawn coming back to the farm where they first saw each other, but everything was different) is definitely off. :(
Waiting patiently for the next Lois McMaster Bujold book.

"In my experience, milady, we can never get back to exactly where we started, no matter how hard we try."

Who is the speaker? Miles

Who is XXX? Rian

What are the circumstances? After a meeting they both attended with the other haut women concerning the theft of the Great Key.

Book = Cetaganda

At first I thought it was Cordellia and Mark speaking, then while hunting through "Mirror Dance" while watching TV I saw a commercial for something that reminded me of a bubble chair, that's when it hit me.

OK. A little gamble then:

Once again, VERY close, but not quite. Uhm, the person being spoken to has an honorific in front of thier name, if that helps? :D

"My father was never a man to overlook an insult," admitted Xxx reluctantly. "But I think-I fear-his spirit has greater troubles just now." Her hand kneaded the folds of her skirt.
"Oh? Yyy Zzz studied her sharply. "Well... go to bed, girl. But go from here tomorrow."
Yyy is an honorific, such as "Sir, Ma'am, Mr, Ms," etc. Zzz is a persons name

Well, that gave it away.

It's Fiametta, talking to Madonna Catti in The Spirit Ring.

"Confession," said xxx meaningfully, "is good for the soul. And body."
Who is xxx?
To whom is it addressed?
Which book?

Well, I cannot imagine Miles telling that to Ivan. :-?
Lacking other ideas :( , considering the fact that I'll be offline for 2-3 days  , and not wanting to stall the game :wall: , I welcome any player who knows the answer :hot: to give it and win the next question :?: . If my answer :!: is so close that it can be considered as "aiding and abetting the winner" :help: though it does not "aid and abet" myself  then it is customary to split the sherlock :sherlock: half-and-half, but this is of course at the discretion of EPS. 8)

You certainly are entitled to 1/2 point, Voralfred.

To win the other half point you, or another competitor, might consider the logic in the questions concerning the sentence:
"Confession," said xxx meaningfully, "is good for the soul. And body."
Who is xxx? [Ivan is correct]
To whom is it addressed?
Which book? [Cetaganda is correct]

I must admit that at first I also assumed this, but upon rereading the paragraph (before posting my original question), logic told me this was close, but not quite correct.

Well, now that Jetta mentioned Yenaro, I had no trouble finding the place. Why aren't you fully satisfied, EPS?
Ivan is talking to Yenaro and it is all about the asterzine, and who was behind it (but htis is part of the "trap". What more is needed?
(Sure, Ivan might also have Miles in mind, and another confession, but that was in my earlier incorrect answer)
I do think that she deserves the next question, and at least a half-sherlock.

"Confession," said Ivan meaningfully, "is good for the soul. And body."
As I understand it, Ivan addresses mainly Lord Yenaro, but the word "meaningfully" suggests to me that Ivan, not so subtly, also admonishes Miles, without letting Yenaro know.
So Ivan adresses his remark to two people, Yenaro and Miles. Which is the answer I expected.

I agree. (I guess I was nitpicking too much).

Thanks!
The next quote is:
Any special demand for secrecy on the part of its purchasers would have driven the cost up, oh, about fivefold.
What book is it?
Who tells that? Whom does he/she address to?
And who was a purchaser, BTW?
"Vorkosigans gave themselves airs - ever theirs cockroaches wear a House crest".

Any special demand for secrecy on the part of its purchasers would have driven the cost up, oh, about fivefold.
What book is it? Memory
Who tells that? The scientist from Labyrinth (Weddell?) Whom does he/she address to? Miles (and probably some other Imp Sec personnel)
And who was a purchaser, BTW? a Komarran group seeking to destabilize the Barrayaran government 10 years before Memory takes place

At least, I think it is. I read it while looking for one of the previous quotes.
Waiting patiently for the next Lois McMaster Bujold book.
