To whom?

Still keeping odd hours, heh? Even later in Zagreb than it is in Paris?
So now I have to look for a new quote right now instead of tomorrow morning

Buying from machines is so much easier. But at least the Appeal to the Irrelevant Authorities at Headquarters works just as well here as at home.
Book?
Who thinks (or maybe utters, but not to anyone in particular) this deep reflexion?
What is being bought? If not from a machine, from whom?
Who are the "Irrelevant Authorities at Headquarters"?

BTW there is an unclaimed bonus here

Blackwing won the main sherlock, got part b) of the bonus and found out that YYY is a tigress, but the hardest part of the bonus (the one deserving the half-point) is to find at least two instances of characters compared to female animal of the Panthera genus.
Instance means: book, character, animal, context.
I know of 3 such instances (there may be more...)
It is OK if two different instances with the same character and/or the same animal ("and" can only hold if there is at least a 4th instance I don't know of)
RK, since this is an entirely different topic you are allowed to answer at once, no need to wait 5 days for this old bonus - but of vcourse this holds for everyone...

No answer yet?
A bit early for a hint (I have no deadline this time) but a warning: RK has already PMed me the right answer. So hurry up!

Anyway I'll give a hint 1 or 2 days before she can answer, tomorrow or the next day.

Book? Barrayar
Who thinks (or maybe utters, but not to anyone in particular) this deep reflexion? Cordelia
What is being bought? If not from a machine, from whom? A swordstick for Kou.
Who are the "Irrelevant Authorities at Headquarters"? Aral.

One sherlock and the next quote is yours.
I really asked "from whom" the swordstick was being bought, not "for whom" but this is not really important (just an old clerk).

Hah! Didn't I tell you she is redoubtable.... and a night owl, too (8 pm forum time is 2 am in Paris and I would guess 3 am in Zagreb?)

All I had determined it was probably not the Saga and thus by force the World of Chalion, since we have agreed not to take quotes in TSK until more people have a chance to read far enough into it, and she already found it!

Well, essentially it is up to us (the most frequent players here) to decide collectively.
How do you feel about it? I have read Beguilement but not yet Legacy..
How many people here have read both already?

I've read Beguilement, Legacy, and Passage, but only own the last one (and it's been a year or so since I read the first two from the library). :D

In my opinion, Passage is the best of the three, but you have to wait until the end of April to get a copy normally (I got a signed (!) ARC last month).

Suzette
- who has been waiting for a good opportunity to brag about her copy of Passage. :)

RK, your new quote is a toughie!

I tried at least a dozen places (with Illyan, Galeni and even Aral as candidates for Xxx) without success.
Maybe time for a little hint?

I though that would be easy .

Book? Mirror Dance
Who is Xxx and I?( Xxx's is name, Xxx pronoun) Ivan
Who is he? Miles
To whom was Xxx speaking? Mark

I first went to Brothers in Arms, thinking it was part of the dialogue there (regarding Ivan getting kidnapped). Fortunately, I've got the omnibus, so I didn't even have to get up to get Mirror Dance. :)

(Edited to fix the grammar for educational purposes)

:slap: :slap: Just checked, she is right!

Well played, Suzette :D (though you should still wait for RK to confirm before posting, this is the etiquette here)

RK, first english lesson:
Reede Kullervo wrote: To whom Xxx speaked? Or who is first speaking?
Not "speaked": "spoke", and I think "was speaking" is better.

"To whom was Xxx speaking? Or who is speaking first?" is the correct order

...and for consistency, either "... is....is..." or "... was ....was..."

Why do I, a Frenchman, do this rather than the english-speakers on the forum :?

But you taught me that you (and Suzette) know LMB's books much better than I do

But at least I am vindicated in one thing: I guessed correctly "he" was Miles as soon as I saw the quote.
Failing to break bad habits! Who else?

I actually didn't correct the grammar because I understood what was meant (and it was late when I answered the question, so I just inserted it), and since I know it's not Reede's first language, I tend to be more permissive. Grammar problems bother me more when I know the person is just being lazy.

Ivan is at least as guilty for sticking his neck out for Miles when the opportunity arises. It's just that Miles's forward momentum propels him towards more opportunities to risk his neck for others.

SPetty said, "Fortunately, I've got the omnibus". There's an omnibus? Where can I get my hands on one of these?

Most of the Saga has been reprinted in omnibus(ses?) by Baen

Cordelia's Honor = Shards+ Barrayar
Young Miles= _WA_, _MoM_ and Vor Game
Miles, Mystery and Mayhem= Cetaganda, Ethan of Athos and Labyrinth,
Miles Errant= The Borders of Infinity (Dagoola) , Brothers in Arms and _MD_
(note that the collection "Borders of Infinity" has been split over the 3 omnibus and the "glueing pages " are NOT reprinted anywhere - nor is Memory, to my knowledge)
Miles in Love= Komarr, _CC_ and Winterfair Gifts

plus the "Quaddie" omnibus Miles, Mutants and Microbes= Falling Free+ Labyrinth+ Diplomatic Immunity
Human is as human does....Animals don't weep, Nine
