That's rather wicked, Felonius!

Too bad the Police wrote that song, hahaha, it would do well as metal.

What I'm listening to at the moment.
Borknagar - Future Reminiscence

The mysteries of a hidden past.
Precession of the planetary relations.
Cosmology, a linear or circular cast?
Restitution of a genuine consciousness.
Return to the haven of the first and the last.

Beware, stare towards the horizon new.
Sear, tear the sensation of distant propinquity.

Through the secret moments I flew.
As one among the very few.

The everlasting zero, a glimpse of a million.
The forever million, yet a ubiquitous presence.
Coronate the path of the Gods, the Elder.

I am a remnant of the forever origin.
I am the soul of every phantom fallen.
I am rising as I am falling, silent as calling.

"The precise prelude of the cataclysm".
Apocalyptic visions of the future fall.
The aberrant taste of the conceiving past.
As a slave of the next moment of presence.
The ones among the very few.

Restitution - summons the sight.
Emancipation - circles in presence.
Renunciation - for a new era to enlighten.
It is medieval/viking metal. Basically, melodic flute type things in the slow melodic parts which sounds very medieval. The chorus has clean melodic singing but the verse is melodic death/black metal.

I must say, considering they are from Norway, their English is damned good!

Borknagar....

Gotta love those Nordic handles, eh? Sounds like an expression for being clubbed over the head or getting wasted...

("Yah, haad defficult night last night - komtpletely BORKNAGARED.")

Had a listen, ECM - didn't like all of it, but definitely some nice transitions and good bits of power in there - couple of nice machine gun drum rolls too. Keep posting links - I always like listening to what other people are listening to so I can make snap judgements about them.  :P

Meanwhile, how about some Leonard Cohen for some magnificent cynicism?
EVERYBODY KNOWS

Everybody knows that the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows that the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost
Everybody knows the fight was fixed
The poor stay poor, the rich get rich
That's how it goes
Everybody knows
Everybody knows that the boat is leaking
Everybody knows that the captain lied
Everybody got this broken feeling
Like their father or their dog just died

Everybody talking to their pockets
Everybody wants a box of chocolates
And a long stem rose
Everybody knows

Everybody knows that you love me baby
Everybody knows that you really do
Everybody knows that you've been faithful
Ah give or take a night or two
Everybody knows you've been discreet
But there were so many people you just had to meet
Without your clothes
And everybody knows

Everybody knows, everybody knows
That's how it goes
Everybody knows

Everybody knows, everybody knows
That's how it goes
Everybody knows

And everybody knows that it's now or never
Everybody knows that it's me or you
And everybody knows that you live forever
Ah when you've done a line or two
Everybody knows the deal is rotten
Old Black Joe's still pickin' cotton
For your ribbons and bows
And everybody knows

And everybody knows that the Plague is coming
Everybody knows that it's moving fast
Everybody knows that the naked man and woman
Are just a shining artifact of the past
Everybody knows the scene is dead
But there's gonna be a meter on your bed
That will disclose
What everybody knows

And everybody knows that you're in trouble
Everybody knows what you've been through
From the bloody cross on top of Calvary
To the beach of Malibu
Everybody knows it's coming apart
Take one last look at this Sacred Heart
Before it blows
And everybody knows

Everybody knows, everybody knows
That's how it goes
Everybody knows

Oh everybody knows, everybody knows
That's how it goes
Everybody knows

Everybody knows

Heart broken at same time posts hit 50 - talk about contradictions!

I kinda like contradictions too - weird group Kiss (hate, hate, hate) did lovely song "Beth"

And Queen - "Another One Bites The Dust" vs. "Bohemian Rhapsody"

Hehehe,
Well, if you really want me to post a bit more.... :P

This is Dark Tranquillity. I am not sure if the two l's in Tranquility are their because they can't spell or because they think it is cool.

They are from Sweden and boast the traditional Gothenburg melodic-death metal style. They are one of the three Gothenburg melodic-death heavy-weights: Soilwork, In Flames and Dark Tranquillity. This song is a bit of a ballad really but the chorus is an absolute killer!

http://mp3.centurymedia.com/DarkTranqui ... hereIn.mp3
Dark Tranquillity - Therein

gentle storm / thundering silence
inferior force / uncontrolled calm
vital unlike / logic/chaos/logic

the tone of which his birth ascend
the beat that of a heart descend
repeating in the infinite
an insight made it clear
order stormed the surface
where chaos set norm
had there always been balance?
...surely not
therein lies the beauty

it was solid
yet everchanging
it was different
yet the same
so I starve myself for energy

the song around his soul will bend
the notes that in this hole will melt
crawl out of science
a dreamland if you dear
disorder clawed the boundaries
we're ordered to stand clear
was it always different
...never the same?
therein lies the beauty

as there were no witnesses
there was nothing to be told
as nothing could be grasped
the story could unfold
superimposed on the elements of anger
/ fear / anxiety / hate / despair / remorse

so break from all that fear hold fast
exposed now turn to all you lack
let echoes be the answers
return from all the screams
wordless now the last attack
so silent it hurts to listen
was it always solid
...to never change?
therein lies the beauty
Edit: By the way, I am pretty sure it is about chaos theory, ya know, that science sorta thing.

An example of crap lyrics.
Limp Bizkit - Hot Dog

Ladies and gentlement!
Introducing the Chocolate Starfish!
and the Hotdog Flavored Water
Bring it on!
Get the f*** up!
Yeah!
Check, one, two

Listen up, listen up!
Here we go
It's a f***ed up world
We're a f*cked up place
Everybody's judged by their f***ed up face
F***ed up dreams
F***ed up life
A f***ed up kid
With a f*** up knife
F***ed up moms
And f***ed dads
It's a f***ed up a cop
With a f***ed up badge
F***ed up job
With f***ed up pay
And a f***ed up boss
Is a f***ed up pain
F***ed up press
And f***ed up lies
Well, Lethal's in the back
With the f*** up fires

Hey, it's on
Everybody knows this song
Hey, it's on
Everybody knows this song

Ain't it a shame that you can't say "F***"
F***'s just a word
And it's all f***ed up
Like a f***ed up punk
With a f***ed up mouth
A nine ninch nail
I'll get knocked the f*** out
F***ed up babes
Who f***ed up sex
Fake ass titties
On a f***ed up chest
We're all f***ed up
So whatcha wanna do?
We f***ed up me
And f***ed up you

You wanna f*** me like an animal
You'd like to burn me on the inside
You like to think that I'm a perfect drug
Just know that nothing you do
Will bring you closer to me

Ain't life a bitch?
A f***ed up bitch
A f***ed up soul with a f***ed up stitch
A f***ed up head
Is a f***ed up shame
Swinging on my nuts
Is a f***ed up game
Jealousy filling up a f***ed up mind
It's real f***ed up
Like a f***ed up crime
If I say "F***", two more times
That's fourty six "F***s" in this f***ed up rhyme

It's on
Everybody knows this song
Hey, it's on
Everybody knows this song

You wanna f*** me like an animal
You'd like to burn me on the inside
You like to think that I'm a perfect drug
Just know that nothing you do
Will bring you closer to me

Hooo Haaa Haaaw!
Listen up baby
You.. can't.. bring.. me.. (bring me).. down
I.. don't.. think.. so
I don't want some
You.. better.. check.. your.. (check it).. self
Before.. you.. wreck.. your.. self
Kiss.. my.. star.. fish
My.. choco.. late.. Starfish.. punk
Kiss.. my.. star.. fish
My.. choco.. late.. Starfish.. punk

You wanna f*** me like an animal
You'd like to burn me on the inside
You like to think that I'm a perfect drug
Just know that nothing you do
Will bring you closer to me

Well, there you go!

The joys of nu-metal. Damn it took ages to *** everything hehe. I'd imagine it is trying to be a social commentary, but it kinda defeats itself. It is bands like Limp Bizkit who give metal a bad name, even if they aren't even metal themselves.

p.s. Does anyone want to kiss Fred Durst's starfish, his chocolate starfish, punk? :? What the hell is up with that?

I particularly like the chorus to this one:

Valley Forge
Music & Lyrics by Jon Schaffer

Close your eyes and imagine
The soldier at Valley Forge
The suffering that he endured was real
Starvation, total war
Yet in his eyes, the iron will to win
And for the cause he won’t relent

Standing barefoot, frozen bloody hands
His musket clutched, an iron grip
For the cause he has but one regret
That he’s only got one life to give

Chorus
Would he look upon us now
In anger and disgust?
His providence, our birthright and our creed
Will we let ignorance and laziness
Bring our demise?
Complacency, we’re blinded by our greed

It’s time for us to open up our eyes
And cherish the lives we all can have
And to the ones who’ve kept our freedom free
Words can’t express all that you have done

Chorus
Would he look upon us now
In anger and disgust?
His providence, our birthright and our creed
Will we let ignorance and laziness
Bring our demise?
Complacency, we’re blinded by our greed
In the 60’s, people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is weird and people take Prozac to make it normal.

Finnish melodic black/death metal
Children of Bodom - Silent Night, Bodom Night

On the eve of their doom
they are baptized
in the unholy waters of Bodom
With no hint of the torture awaiting
to greet them at the break of dawn

When the calm is setting in
we'll watch it swiftly disappear
Too many years of silence
soon he's bound to reappear

The Reaper
is calling for you to come home
With the thrust of a switchblade
on the grip of a madman
And the waters of Bodom
turn a blood shade of red
As the Children Of Bodom
lake their last breath.

When the calm is setting in
we'll watch it swiftly disappear
Too many years of silence
soon he's bound to reappear
It is about the mass murders at the holiday camp at Lake Bodom - Finland during the late 60s. It is from these that the band has their name lol, rather macabre haha. Good song though.

Definitely POETRY, MK!!
Though I've never listened to it, the lyrics are like the traditional Irish music I listen to a lot. Having said that, do you think I'd like the music?

Sorry, Kahrey - my question was kind of a joke. No, I don't like metal as a rule, but some of the lyrics (like that one) really appeal to me. My musical taste runs more toward folk/traditional, with a little "soft" rock (Eagles, Linda Ronstadt) and "hard" rock (Stones, Led Zeppelin) thrown in when I'm feeling low.......

Here is something different:
If Nobody Believed In You - Joe Nichols

I watched him take the two strike call
He hadn't tried to swing at all
I guess he had all he could take
He walked away for goodness sake
His father's voice was loud and mean
You won't amount to anything

That little boy quit trying
He just walked away
There were teardrops on his face
Tell me how would you feel
You'd probably give up too
If nobody believed in you

That old man said one more try
I know I'm not too old to drive
I promise son I'll do my best
This time I'm gonna pass the test
Give me the keys dad and get in
His father never drove again

That old man quit trying
He just turned away
There were teardrops on his face
Tell me how would you feel
You'd probably give up too
If nobody believed in you

We take His name out of the schools
And lawyers say it breaks the rules
The pledge of allegiance can't be read
And "under God" should not be said
I wonder how much He will take
I just pray it's not too late

What if God quit trying
He just turned away
There were teardrops on His face
Tell me how would you feel
You'd probably give up too
If nobody believed in you

Tell me how would you feel
You'd probably give up too
If nobody believed in you
Makes you think twice about how to treat your family or people in general. A friend once told me - watch how you treat your children, one day they maybe taking care of you.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animating contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you,

Soilwork - Departure Plan

You're taking care of your instincts
No matter what you do
Your life could be so much better when everything is through
The demons that refused to let you go
They leave with empty hands
You got to give it a try
Don't put an end to your life
Cause that's where you show your last sign

[Chorus:]
You gotta rise with me!
Cause you're so vulnerable... Me!
No need for sympathy now...
Yet so admirable... Say...

Your passion for art is your well hidden cure
Cause that's where you have a plan
Escaping could be such a movement now
In your fragile heart also true

[Chorus]

... You'll never ever hurt yourself again!
Yeah, Soilwork. This song is utterly different from all of their other ones (maybe that is why it is called Departure Plan... I hope not though!). It is a ballad sorta thing with clean singing all the way through, well the last line is screamed but that is it! :gasp:

Still, it is a reasonable song.

Darkane - Fatal Impact

From peaceful moments to inferno
Early years passing through your mind
The expected world, now coloured in red
And within seconds, your soul is blind

I hear myself scream
The panic's chasing me
This is no dream

I'm not supposed to be here
I've never felt such painful fear

Aware of my flesh, is this for real
Turned inside out, (horrified) reality
The smell of death, subconscious, so clear
Gaining strength from own misery

I hear myself scream
The panic's chasing me
This is no dream

I'm not supposed to be here
I've never felt such painful fear

[lead: Malmstrom]

Awake from one nightmare to another
A new born tragedy, is this the bitter end?
The price I paid, a body slain
Entering a lower level of life

I'm not supposed to be here
I've never felt such painful fear
I'm not supposed to be here
I've never felt such painful fear
Cool post-death, melodic, thrash-kinda metal. It is basically its own genre. It is Darkane. http://www.nuclearblast.de/media/NB_1021.ram
