Darkane - Innocence Gone

No boundaries of what you've been through
Abused, molested
The pain you suffered from meaningless lunacy
Raped, penetrated, lunacy

Once innocent, now that is gone
Try to build your life from constant lies
Despise the one who bore you
Hate the one that made you
There's no one to confine to

The hate you feel inside
Rots away with the soul that died
Innocence is gone
Only limbs

Try to conquer your pain
Never daring to say no
For the fright of more pain to come
You let the act pass by
To be brutalized in the worst possible way

The hate you feel inside
Rots away with the soul that died
Innocence is gone
Only limbs

Shattered body and soul
Shattered body and soul
The plague will not withdraw
The hate you feel inside

lead: Malmstrom

The plague will come to haunt you down
Grind you down to nothing
The black light you see is all that you feel
Darkness, numbness fills the soul

The hate you feel inside - The hate you feel inside
The hate you feel inside - The hate you feel inside

The hate you feel inside
Rots away with the soul that died
Innocence is gone
Only limbs exist in fearful hate
The hate you feel inside
Rots away with the soul that died
Innocence is gone
Only limbs
Raa! melodic post-death metal. I like Darkane.

The cruel voices echo
The empty-handed king grieves
I can never sit
On that white bench

'God-granted power'
The powerful ones are frightened
This unsurpassable power
I want to snare it with a trap

I want to seize it, I want to seize it
I want to seize it, but I cannot seize it
I cannot seize it, I cannot seize it
I cannot seize it, but I cannot rest

The wind of applause and the wind of reproach
Like a monster's arms
Pushing their way home
But I cannot sleep

I cannot sleep, I cannot sleep
I cannot sleep, but I want to dream
I want to dream, I want to dream
It's like a dream, I want to dream

I want to sit there, I want to float away
I want to sleep, I want to dream
I want to dream, I want to dream
It's like a dream, I want to dream
What's my name?

The cruel voices echo
The empty-handed king grieves
Someday I want to sit
On that white bench

All right, I kinda fell behind in here and I don't think I'll b able to post lyrics everyday. Here's a song though. I don't think it needs any interpretations, but you guys seem to pick out underlying messages pretty well, so feel free to try.

Sawao Yamanaka wrote:
The Pillows- Bran-new Lovesong

After the memory of love faded
I slept so long with my eyes open
It's afflicted me far more than I thought

I'm ripped in half as I stand
When I turn to face the piercing light
It's no illusion, it's you standing there

Tell me, where did you come from
Why do you know me
Tears of melancholy fall
Resounding through the end of my loneliness
Bran-new lovesong
That is my song for you

I gently stripped away the overwhelming dream
Til not a trace was left
Now there's nothing, just the two of us

I used to hate myself
But before I knew it, I gave in
This heart began to race
It's not so easily softened
Bran-new lovesong
You gave me everything

Tell me, where did you come from
Why do you know me
Tears of melancholy fall
Resounding through the end of my loneliness
Bran-new lovesong
That is my song for you

I think this is a very good song, what do you think?

Darkane - Third

Reality breaks into your mind
A flash of light cuts through the head
You search for clarity, cannot find
Your mind is dull, your eyes are blind
Scream for help but no one hears
A dark tornado, Distorting ear
Try to escape as you turn around
Nailed by fear down to the ground

Floating...

Slowly reaching consiousness
A feeling overwhelming in distress
The focus slowing returns from dead
Realizing creatures face above your head
Evil expressions piercing through
Internal experiments based on you
Paralyzed by cosmic horror insane
Surrealistic screams of panic, of pain

Floating...
Through...
Inverted...
Spheres...

[Lead: Malmstrom]

Floating...
Through...
Inverted...
Spheres...

The world of hysteric silence
Expanding by abusive violence
Growing red in organic disorder
Apathetic attempts to reach the border
That will free you from this insanity
A shapeless dimension of humanity
Paralyzed by cosmic horror insane
Surrealistic screams of panic, of pain

Shadows In The Rain - The Police

I woke up in my clothes again this morning
I don't know exactly where I am
And I should heed my doctor's warning
He does the best with me he can

He says I suffer from delusion
But I'm so confident I'm sane
It can't be an optical illusion
So how can you explain
Shadows in the rain

And if you see us on the corner
We're just dancing in the rain
I tell my friends there when I see them
Outside my window pane
Shadows in the rain

Here's another song by The Pillows.

Sawao Yamanaka wrote:The Pillows- Girls Don't Cry

Ask anyone about that girl, they call her 'notorious'
Wearing flashy episodes on
You walk with rumors and walk away from friends
You’re all alone, but I think you’re cool
I have always been attracted to you
I don’t care what they say about you
I want to kiss and hold you tight

I want to peek into her heart
If I only could find my way through between the curtains at night
And sneak into her dreams quietly
I want to be the wind and watch over her by her side
Will she laugh and say 'I’m alright'?
Any interpretaions or underlying messages?

What I get from it is that this girl is totally different from the rest. She is talked about and she is lonely, but he doesn't listen to what they say, he goes with what he feels. He doesn't know exactly how to get to her, but he wants to be close. He wants to whisper in on her dreams, he wants to be the wind she feels on her face. He wants it all, but he's not sure how to get to her.

Therion - An Arrow From The Sun

[Lyrics by Thomas Karlsson]
[Music by Christofer Johnsson]

[Solo soprano:]
Sunshine hides behind a cloud
[Bass/Tenor:]
Eiwar!
[Solo soprano:]
There's no light for us to see
[Bass/Tenor:]
Eiwar!
[Solo soprano:]
But a ray is breaking through
[Bass/Tenor:]
Eiwar!
[Solo soprano:]
The ignorance of human mind
[Bass/Tenor:]Eiwar!

On Olympia the sun is born
Radiating from god Apollo
From the utmost North arrived a mankind
And he took a spark, a shaft of light

Arrows from the sun, they penetrate the human mind
Sophia is born when we catch on of these
Arrows from the sun, they bunr the soul and make us see
Him who took the spark: Abaris Eiwar

Eiwar, Eiwar, take an arrow from the sun
Abaris, pilgrim from the regions of darkness

when you catch the sun, you'll ride a beam
All across the world, in every place
Like Abaris did, he took the spark
As a riding broom; a magic world

Arrows from the sun will penetrate the human mind
Sophia is born when we catch on of these
Arrows from the sun, they bunr the soul and make us see
Deep inside the maze: the Psyche, the soul

An arrow from the sun is like a sceptre in your hand
A key to time and space, to joureys within
Arrows form the sun will open up your beating heart
Sophia will shine when they hit your soul

Eiwar, Eiwar, take an arrow from the sun
Abaris, pilgrim from the regions of darkness
Eiwar, Eiwar, bend the bow now and shoot now
Abaris, bowman, shoot an arrow from the sun
This is a genre of music called Operatic Metal. It is basically classical music with opera-like vocals but with drums and distortion etc. Very cool. I really like Therion.

Here's another by the Pillows. I like the lyrics, but Yamanaka sounds like he's just beginning to discover his true voice in it.

Sawao Yamanaka wrote:The Pillows-Suicide Diving

It's all right if we vanish in a flash
Leaving not even a memory to anyone
I'm beginning to understand the loneliness
We want to choose the way that is best

No matter where you end up, the real enemy
Continues to grow, hidden inside of ourselves

Despite our mistakes
We keep hurting ourselves
No matter what color the traffic light is
I won't hit the brakes
It's all right if we just crash

The setting sun reflected in a puddle of water
Is orange and sad but a little warm
Though we speak not a word
We know we all feel the same way

It's like magic, isn't it
You can always see through my feelings right away

Despite our mistakes
We keep hurting ourselves
No matter what color the traffic light is
I won't hit the brakes
It's all right if we crash, go faster
It's all right if we crash, we'll remember everything
It's all right if we just crash
What d'ya think? Any Underlying messages or interpretations?

I like that, Norse. Here's what I get from it:

He seems fed up with everything. He feels like it wouldn't matter to anyone if he were to suddenly disappear, he'd be forgotten right away. He's tired of even trying because he's getting nowhere. He's to the point now to where he doesn't care if he were to die, he's almost wishing it.

I can identify alot with that song. It's great :thumb:

I must try my hand at this analysis. I just love the Pillows lyrics. they are so full of imagery.
Hunter B. The Pirate King wrote:Here's another by the Pillows. I like the lyrics, but Yamanaka sounds like he's just beginning to discover his true voice in it.

Sawao Yamanaka wrote:The Pillows-Suicide Diving

It's all right if we vanish in a flash
Leaving not even a memory to anyone
I'm beginning to understand the loneliness
We want to choose the way that is best
When he says "It's all right if we vanish in a flash, leaving not a memory to anyone," I wonder if he means, "Does it matter if we vanish in a flash and no one remembers us when we are gone?" Beginning to understand the loneliness--well, myself, I find that when I'm in coventry (my metaphor of choice for the big TIME-OUT that life sometimes inflicts on us), it is very lonely, but I also learn a lot about myself, life, and others. That could be learning to understand the nature of loneliness and how, ultimately, we are all completely alone in the world. We come into the world alone. We leave the world alone.

Through it all, we really want to "choose the way that is best" we want to do the right things. Even though we often do the wrong things. Cause we're stupid or ignorant, apparently.

No matter where you end up, the real enemy
Continues to grow, hidden inside of ourselves
This stanza says to me, "Always, I am my own worst enemy, just like every other person is his/her own worst enemy. No one else can hurt us as much as we hurt ourselves." Also, the enemy grows, hidden, inside us. Could that mean we are not aware of the bad thing inside ourselves until it's big enough to hurt us?

Despite our mistakes
We keep hurting ourselves
No matter what color the traffic light is
I won't hit the brakes
It's all right if we just crash
We don't learn from our mistakes. We just keep doing things that hurt us. When outside forces (metaphor of the traffic light) try to get us to stop or at least slow down, we don't. We just drive on into the crash.
The setting sun reflected in a puddle of water
Is orange and sad but a little warm
Though we speak not a word
We know we all feel the same way
The real sun is hot and provides light to see everything, including the truth. What gets reflected in the water isn't real. It's pretty and the sun may warm the puddle, but it isn't the real thing. It's interesting that they use the word "puddle" which is not even an impressive body of water, like a lake or an ocean. A puddle is shallow and will eventually dry up; a puddle is meaningless.

"Though we speak not a word, we know we all feel the same way."
It's like all people know there is a definite right and a definite wrong about the world, but we don't talk about it. But just because we don't talk about it doesn't mean we aren't all aware of it.
It's like magic, isn't it
You can always see through my feelings right away
Magic. It is like magic when you meet another person who not only "sees" you, but who really sees you as you really are, past your exterior packaging and the masks we wear for convenience or safety. Someone who can grasp what you feel and comprehend it in a deep way. See past the shallow feelings and into the deep ones.
Despite our mistakes
We keep hurting ourselves
No matter what color the traffic light is
I won't hit the brakes
It's all right if we crash, go faster
It's all right if we crash, we'll remember everything
It's all right if we just crash
It's all right if we crash. Hmmm. Well, there is that "It's better to burn out than to fade away" philosophy. Maybe they feel that the crash is inevitable, so "if t'were to be done, tis best done quickly." Personally, I prefer my Phoenix metaphor. The crash, destruction, followed by rebirth and resurrection.

That's my take on this one. Of course, all analysis that I do is perculated through my own values and personal image meanings.

What can someone like me do
I keep thinking about it
It's so strange

In a silhouette of carefree love
Made by the ephemeral light of an amusement park
We kissed

As I came to like you
Although it only seemed like it would be painful
It wasn't like that
They say boys all around town
Are waiting for their chance with you too
But it's all right, I don't demand anything

Someday
I want to have you for myself
But that's surely impossible, I know
Yes, it's sad

Shirt flung aside, I lie sprawled out
I don't think I'll forget
The night we embraced

I can no longer see you
The feelings I thought would fade
Swell more and more
How I want to show them to you

In a silhouette of carefree love
Made by the ephemeral light of an amusement park

Sawao Yamanaka wrote:The Pillows- Thank You, My Twilight

I was waiting for you

Life, life is beautiful
I'll keep singing just as I speak
She, she is wonderful
Those words shine even in the darkness
Brilliant tears overflowed

Sometime they'll ask
"How long, how far does that feeling go?"
Baby, however far you want

Life, life is beautiful
My roulette keeps spinning
She, she is wonderful
I want to see the present in those eyes
Immediately I seized that feeling

Even if there is no miracle, it's enough, you know
Even if today is the last day
Thank you, my twilight
Thank you, my twilight

Bet I can!

Sawao Yamanaka wrote:The Pillows- Thank You, My Twilight

Roulette is a device for gamblers. You put down your money and choose your number and hope against all odds for the best. Love is like that too. You pick one other out of the crowd because he/she appeals to you, looks like a winner, you invest your time and your heart, and hope for the best.

He wants to see the "present" in her eyes. Obviously, the first meaning of the word "present" is the current moment. He wants to be with her now. But it can also mean "gift." So, it's a really cool double meaning. He wants to see the gift of her love maybe? Then to follow that by "Immediately I seized that feeling" works with both meanings too. He's "Seized the day" grabbed onto the present moment, carpe diem and all that "suck the marrow out of life" philosophy. And anyone will also seize a present to eagerly unwrap it. The feeling he seizes may be that "Christmas morning" feeling of excitement, anticipation, and mystery. What will I receive? Look at all these beautifully wrapped boxes! Getting to know a new person is like opening dozens of boxes as bit by bit they reveal their true selves to you.
It's as if I'm waiting for someone
If you appear, it won't be a mistake
I was waiting for you
Nice. I like this stanza. It might mean he believes fate will bring him the right one. He's waiting for the One, that perfect One. If she comes along, it is meant to be, and he was waiting for her all the time. He just didn't know it until he saw her. (Sigh. So romantic.)

Life, life is beautiful
I'll keep singing just as I speak
She, she is wonderful
Those words shine even in the darkness
Brilliant tears overflowed
He embraces life, considers it beautiful, and he sings out his interpretations of life just as he speaks them out when he's not singing. He rejoices in the girl, finds her wonderful, which of course means great, but the root word of wonderful is wonder. One meaning of wonder is like "awe". Maybe she awes him. He stands there pondering the amazing nature of this person, awed by who and what she is. When we see something really amazing and awesome, so much so that it humbles us and makes us see our insignificant place in the great cosmos, it can bring tears to our eyes. Not tears of sadness, but tears of joy, gratitude, a feeling of being overwhelmed (and perhaps a little unworthy but blessed). These feelings are so profound that they beat back the darkness, shine in the midst of the darkness, pushing it away. Darkness is traditionally metaphoric of loneliness, pain, and such, so she moves those things away from him, and graces him with her shining presence. (In fact, it's a lot like what Romeo said when he first saw Juliet: Oh, she doth teach the torches to burn bright.
Sometime they'll ask
"How long, how far does that feeling go?"
Baby, however far you want
People, especially people who are cynics or doubters say, "Yeah, right. That feeling fades. How long do you think it will last?" To them he says, it will go as far and as long as we want it to. As long as we want it, we will have it. (Implied is that it will be wanted and possessed forever.)

Life, life is beautiful
My roulette keeps spinning
She, she is wonderful
I want to see the present in those eyes
Immediately I seized that feeling
Here he reiterates his belief that life is a gamble, love is a gamble. You take your chance and grab your prize when it comes along.
Even if there is no miracle, it's enough, you know
Even if today is the last day
Thank you, my twilight
Thank you, my twilight
The last stanza is beautiful and kind of surprising. I didn't expect the last part. He says that even if the love he gets is not the Miracle of Miracles, it's enough. Love is enough. All love is kind of miraculous, isn't it?

He says that he is grateful for what he has, even if it comes so late that he has only ONE day of it. Then he says "Thank you, my twilight." That is an amazingly poignant line. He personifies twilight as the girl he loves. Twilight is the last vestige of light before the darkness. Instead of cursing the darkness and wishing for full light of day, he embraces the last flicker of light and is grateful that he has it. Very beautiful. He savors the last and least drop of beauty, life, and love before darkness engulfs him.

He tells himself to stop. Stop what? The feelings he has for her, apparently, as he says they will not waver. They stay the same, even though he wants them to stop.

A powerful image of this girl swimming through the radiant, untouchable night. Night cannot be touched, yet she is able to physically swim through it. It makes me think of the saying "Sink or Swim." Apparently this girl doesn't sink. She swims. She is able to stay afloat and make progress in a place that others can't even touch. She is a powerful person.

I wonder if he considers the night beautiful but dangerous? "Radiant" implies beauty. Untouchable could mean it shouldn't be touched because it's dangerous, but more likely it means that it is unattainable.

He worries she doesn't really care, that she is only playing with him, and he'll end up heart broken. Perhaps he'll end up drowning in that radiant night.
It's a funny feeling
What can someone like me do
I keep thinking about it
It's so strange
I wonder if the funny feeling he is referring to is the feeling he has for her, or the feeling of trying to swim in the untouchable night? He feels someone like him is rather powerless (implied), but he can't stop thinking about it. "It's so strange" could mean the feeling of swimming in the night is strange, or perhaps that thinking about this stuff is strange. Maybe it refers to his whole life being strange because of his relationship with this powerful girl?
In a silhouette of carefree love
Made by the ephemeral light of an amusement park
We kissed
A silhouette is the dark outline of the real thing. Ephemeral means it is fleeting and temporary; an amusement park is a place with a lot of fun but it is mostly motion, lights, and sound. Not much is real there. It's all illusion. A lot of whirling, spinning feelings are unleashed by the machines we willingly strap ourselves into.

Carefree love would be light-hearted, not very serious, something you don't worry much about. But he talks about the silhouette of carefree love. Maybe it is the dark reflection of carefree love? Not really carefree. Something more brooding? Something to worry about?

They kiss by the light of the amusement park, a fantasy place with fleeting light. Maybe he wonders if the love will be as fleeting and unreal as the amusement park?
As I came to like you
Although it only seemed like it would be painful
It wasn't like that
They say boys all around town
Are waiting for their chance with you too
But it's all right, I don't demand anything
In the first two lines, he says he had the preconceived notion that liking her would end up hurting him, yet he did it anyway. "It wasn't like that" maybe means the pain he expected didn't happen. It was nicer than he expected, maybe?

He knows all the other guys want her, and that maybe she'll go off with one, but that's okay. He's not tying her down. When she's ready to go, he's willing to let her go. He knows he can't hold her if she wants to fly away.
Someday
I want to have you for myself
But that's surely impossible, I know
Yes, it's sad
He'd like to be her only love, beating out all the others in the great game of love, but he doesn't think it's possible. This makes him sad.
Shirt flung aside, I lie sprawled out
I don't think I'll forget
The night we embraced
With his shirt flung aside, his naked chest is exposed. If he's lying sprawled out, he's on his back. Both images make him appear very vulnerable. He is lying on his back, skin exposed, in a position where she can rip out his heart if she wants to.

Even lying there so vulnerable, he's thinking about the night they embraced and kissed, and thinking that no one can take that memory away from him. His heart can be broken, but his memory will remain. I guess he think that's better than nothing at all. At least he had the chance at some of her love.
I can no longer see you
The feelings I thought would fade
Swell more and more
How I want to show them to you
Apparently she's gone now. He thought his love would slowly fade away, but instead it's getting stronger and stronger. He'd like to show his love to her. But she's not there. Sad.
In a silhouette of carefree love
Made by the ephemeral light of an amusement park
We kissed
He has his memory of that fleeting moment of joy when they kissed.

Winona, kiss me again
Oh, my, how he wishes he could feel her lips on his once more. *sigh* Very sad and romantic.
