Yeah, it was a REALLY hot day... a lot of people got heat exhaustion, but that pic was taken before the first fight, so I was still fresh. And the SCA is the Society for Creative Anachronism, a medieval reenactment group.
We have to wear a certain level of protection in case one of the sword blades breaks, and that mena s payers and layers of cloth.

Looks like Mary Olivia inherited Daddy's curly hair, if not the color.
She's adorable, Clong - I love those big eyes!

Cool pic, clong. Everytime I see babies it makes me want to find the right girl and start producing offspring...until I suddenly recall how onery I was as a youngster...and the whole idea falls apart...

Babies are cute and cuddly, but toddlers are FUNNY. I'll take a toddler any day - they keep me laughing.Greabo Girl wrote:Yeah, babies rock. Alice is almost two now and isn't very baby-like.

Its actually pretty expensive. THe helmet alone is about $80, the hood maybe $25, the shirt was made for me, the vest can be as much as $50 for a really cheap and basic one (that one is borrowed), gloves $30, the dagger is about $110 and the sword is about $115. I've got another two daggers that were about $100 each, another sword that was $100, and a heavy rapier that so far is about $200 (not finished putting it together).Echus Cthulhu Mythos wrote:How much does all that gear cost?
You can get cheaper equipment, but I like to look good, not trashy.

0.0 That much???
Hmmm, I bet I'll find stuff like that down in Oxfam and it'll be about 50p.

Yeah the problem is that used stuff isn't always up to the standards we have for society fencing. Dents in masks and old blades can easily injurre you and your opponent. That's why we have to get all brand new stuff. Plus, a lot of my stuff is custom made, to my specifics, and that's expensive. Like that dagger in the picture, with the piercework in the guard, and the hardwood handle (sometimes even an exotic wood handle can run you $40 alone!).
