website work in progress!
Everybody say, thank you xyrael and kvetch!
Thaaaank you!
Xyrael, re: layout/design, would you rather try something else? I'm happy to work on things further if you'd like to fix up/clean up/try something different. Timeframe is pretty open, I'd just like to have something up for an agent to look at by the time the book is done and ready to go out swanning about.
So we can certainly change things.
Also, we can put this one up now, and work on something big & purty to put up when we can later on.
Also, I took the liberty of pointing an lj person, mos_self, over to silentflame server service. (He too may be helping out somebody else who has minimal html skills...)
For the forum at large, if folks out there have suggestions for pages we should think about, by all means let us know. Thanks!!

I'm happy with it if you and so many people like it! I don't think we have to worry. May I ask, what does this LJ user want it for? I don't want to badger them about it.hgladney wrote:Everybody say, thank you xyrael and kvetch!

I'll take cheesecake both ways!
Yeah, I'm tough like that.
pm'd you, xyurael, thanks--and I hope I get the email/server thing sorted out quick!
For those of you settled in for the seige--I mean brining the turkey or marinating the barbecue meat or checking the poi and the pig in the pit--best wishes, and best of luck on the dirty dishes and the inlaws and the looming laundry and other ignored chores and the driving and the gas prices and the noise. oh yeah all that frickin' noise!
A little note on the harvest, the time of the season, and folks who like to cook.
This is why ya oughta bother.

Tollbaby, you're very welcome--and I'll pass along the nice remarks, too!
PS--yes, the turkey & fixin's came out amazingly good (you can do these things low-fat, even!) and everybody went to bed unusually early (if they didn't fall asleep sitting up in their chair outright) and amazingly everyone woke up early this morning.
Such as, about four hours earlier than typical of weekends...I have no explanation for *that* unusual event!

Spent this afternoon happily sorting out more pictures for the website.
I think I've got the page graphic combinations worked out now, it's just a matter of getting the art work to stop looking stretched, and mechanics like that.
Oh yah, and getting together some, like, actual content.
Wow, man.
Like, words.
Any suggestions from the peanut galleries on what y'all would like to see put up by way of abuse of the English language?

Cheesecake recipes?
Just kidding (maybe...) but you post enough about various food items here that you probably should have a recipe section on your site. And a chocolate section, too....

Just a thought on recipes - Diane Duane and Peter Morwood used to have a section of their website on the best places in Ireland to get curry.
They also had the dancing hamsters, which I used to go to when I was feeling particularly stressed out. There was something about that that just provoked uncontrolled giggles.

If you don't mind a couple of suggestions [feel free to ignore]:
- I would suggest the credits links on the bottom of the page:
http://xyrael.net/ &
http://glish.com/css/
open in a new window rather than navigate away from the main site.
[When you do the external links page - I would suggest that they DO navigate away...]
These suggestions are more about personal preferance when browsing peoples sites... - I would suggest that the graphics all have descriptive filenames - one of them has a filename:
IMG_0419.JPG
which suggests that it is the name given to it by a Canon digtal camera... - I would suggest that ALL graphics have a copy right-sized for the embedded graphic - and that the "alt" description indicates how large the main image that will load is when clicked on. I noticed it a LOT more now that I am running on dial-up!
Working across different Browsers is important - and so is working across different connection speeds...I really like it, but more importantly it works better across different browsers and doesn't mess up on different screen sizes. -
I would hope that in addition to using the php script for setting the bg colour, you make it possible for the Author herself to update content within at least some of the pages without having to know any HTML.I'm going to write a PHP script so we can set the bg colour and the like from the database, and all will run smoothly! - It might be nice to also look at embedding her livejournal rather than just linking to it:

Poss. new design:
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet
It's a demo by Xyrael - and the Latin is a common page of text used to provide filler... I don't think there would be much percentage in translation...

(tb, I used this)
Thanks for the comments, kilt! Here are my thoughts:
Credits links are a very good idea. I will do that, and I agree heartily. Wish they'd make a open in new tab alternative for FireFox/IE7/Opera.
On the graphic names, that's because they're just uploaded from those Heather sent me. I'll get her to go through them all with cPanel
. You're right though, they arn't very helpful in that form. On graphic sizes, yes, I think I'll get Kvetch to do that. The reason they wern't here was 'cause it was a test page.
'Tis going to be database driven. I did code a WYSIWYG editor with logins and the like for SilverdaleLibrary.com, but no-one uses it! I might force heather to learn a little formatting html (ie p em and strong) in order to do it, using phpMyAdmin. Is that a little mean?
LJ can be integrated?! Brilliant! I always though that only Blogger could be. This is excellent, and I'm really pleased. I might get Heather to let me in to make a new template, or however it works, to fully integrate. I hope it works...
Thanks for all the help kilty!
EDIT: Bleh, you need a paid account to integrate, and I don't think Heather has one. Go Blogger!

Have fun!All users are able to embed their journals, but Paid and Permanent Accounts provide more options and customization flexibility,

Excellent, thanks. I think we'll have to use a frame though, and it won't look very good (unless JScript works out). This is v annoying because it would look really good. Will look into it at some point.
