I'm relaxing for the week in Ocean City, NJ. Well, relaxing the best I can with a 2 year old and a 10 month old.

Whatever they did to my tubes, it was OK.
I was 37 when I married and was able to have two children, one of each, by 40. I know there was more risk if I had one more so it felt quite comfortable

gpackin, there was 13 months between the two, so it was a handful but fine. And they had so much company of each other, when we lived abroad.

In May I visited my son in Australia. I had not seen him for 8 years. It was great to be with him.

I was 23 when I got pregnant with my son, and I was 25 when my brother knocked up his VERY YOUNG girlfriend, so I ended up with a boy and a girl. If he fathers any more children, I'll castrate him myself. But I'm very happy with the way things turned out ;) I'm sort of trying to get up the nerve to get my tubes cut & cauterized.

I have had a crappy, stressful week, but I'm glad to say, the sun is starting to shine again.

One of the hardest things about this week is facing up to the fact that some of the things that happened were my fault. I'm critical, and have a hot temper which doesn't explode often, but can get ugly when it does. So I caused some of my own problems and upsets this week, and richly deserved the headaches that followed.

But today, things are coming together again. And we are throwing a big, Cajun dinner party this Saturday, which I believe will be attended by about 25 people. We're feeding them all. But I like the challenge and the camraderie of being surrounded by family and good friends.

Now, if I could just tell myself to forgoe fashion and wear sensible flats, my toes wouldn't be cramped up tonight.

I'm either insane or just farther along the evolutionary path than most people. I'll get back to you when I have a better idea of which.

(I realize the above would not be the ideal way to lead off a psychotherapy session. But it may save some time.)

I've thought that a few times myself -- told myself something and then immediately decided that what I'd said was probably something that I'd never truly want to admit -- even to a shrink -- for fear that I would immediately be led away and incarcerated.

I'm pretty upset today. I was working and had to make a delivery to a new town home development behind our local shopping center. The development was built for government assisted people from Lynchburg. They knocked down some projects there for a high end shopping center and moved the people who lived there to Amherst.

Since it was built it has been a real problem area for the police. I can't say the rest of the town is too happy about it either. Amherst never had such problems before. Whenever I or another driver has to make a delivery there, we are told to be very careful and watch what is going on around us.

Like I said, today I was making a delivery there. I dropped off the pie and was getting back into my car when I heard people yelling. I looked up to see two men arguing on a third floor balcony. They were in a town home about fifty yards from where I was parked. One man grabbed the other man and dumped off the balcony. I actually saw him fall and hit the ground. I immediately phoned 911. They told me someone had already called about the fighting and the police were on the way.

I was so scared. I had to wait there and give the police a report. They said I could be called to court as a witness. My boss let me knock off early. I came home and just started crying. I called my father and told him. He wants me to decline deliveries to that area or quit. He says that areas of poor people usually have a lot of crime. Why? I just don't understand it. My father was a farmer. We were poor. We didn't get into a lot of trouble though. What is so different about being poor from a city, and being poor from a RFD? I do know this, I am not going to make any more deliveries there.

One big difference is that your father being a farmer probably was a hard worker. These people are not the way they are because they are poor, they are poor because of the way they are. Plenty of poor people have made great things of there lives. Others want the easy way which often includes criminal activities. Well, that's my take on it.

Thanks for the support. I'm feeling a little better. I have never been so scared in my life. At least I've stopped crying. I called the police to find out how the man who fell is doing. The policeman I talked to said he was not absolutely sure but believes he has a severe spinal injury. At least he's not dead. They caught the man who dumped him off the balcony. Apparently the fight was over drugs.

My father has called me like five times since I called him. He really wants me to quit. He reads a lot of Pat Buchanan books. He's convinced that the rich depositing "the welfare state" in middle class communities is part of their plan to destroy the middle class. That along with destroying the United States sovereignty by promoting open borders, joining a one world community, and shipping industrial jobs overseas.

I don't know what to think about all that. I do know that the two other communities that also got the Lynchburg project people are also suffering the same problems as Amherst. It does seem like they are spreading bad neighborhoods instead of keeping them contained.

Meredith, I'm very sorry for what happened to you tonight (a bit more sorry for the guy who went ass over teakettle, but there we are).

However, if we want to start a debate about polarization of the classes and poverty, etc, the Soapbox is probably the best place for it. But if everybody plays nice the discussion can continue here :)

My apologies again. I never realized how difficult it can be to stay focused on a single topic. It's just so easy to deviate. I suspect it is because I'm posting more in a conversation mode than an essay mode.

Veering off-topic is fine, and everyone does it once in a while. However, controversial topics should be limited to the SoapBox :) It was just a friendly reminder.

Today has been a pretty good day, because we learned that the laptop computer (i.e., "my" computer) has been successfully repaired and will be returned to us tomorrow.

It has been a real hassle to live through the three weeks that the laptop has been missing. Not only are we missing vital information such as medical appointments and the freezer list, and so on, but sharing the remaining computer has been hard on both of us. We have been a two computer family for at least 15 years now (I think it is more like 20). With the best will in the world, sharing access to a single computer is hard. We both have such strong habits of being able to go to the computer at will (to google information, to enter information, to get mail, to come here, etc.) that it is hard to have that impulse and find that your spouse is there ahead of you.

There was no quarrel or ill-will here, just the sudden feeling of "tight quarters" when we are use to having a lot of "free space."

We'e both very happy to see the laptop return.

Hi, guys! I'm just checking in really quick. I'm doing well, I've gotten a carpenters job with a contracting company that specifically deals in work with old churches and other buildings of worship. My grandma is doing fine. The big news is that I'm getting married! My fiance's name is Alvin. He's owns a used book shop. The big day is Sunday, December 9th. Take care. I'll try and check back sometime soon.

Yesterday was ANZAC day (Australia/New Zealand Army Corps) which is like one of the big national holidays in New Zealand to remember our war dead and celebrate their sacrifice and such-like. For a start the day is quite significant to me personally, but being in active service, ANZAC day is extra special.

But whoa damn, did I have an absolutely fantastic day! I skipped the dawn service, but went to my designated RSA (Returned Serviceman's Association) at 0900h for the parade at 1030h. That finished up when no less than the Prime Minister turned up and gave a speech and then came around to have a chat to us all. Once all the formalities were out of the way by about 1130h the party started. We even had Team Policing turn up (the branch of the police who deal with drunken idiots, breaking up fights, riots etc so they are all massive dudes) to drink with us, which was quite interesting. Plus it is awesome having a yarn to all the old boys and the veterans as well as the Army and Air Force cuzzies who were there.

I left Point Chevalier RSA at around 2pm with mates from other RSAs and we all went to Grey Lynn and hit it pretty hard. I danced with lots of old ladies and had a great time. Chatted with more vets. Danced with more old ladies. Then we hit town at about 8pm. Town started to kick off at about 10-11ish. Had some shots. I lost a whole bunch of my mates for a while, so I stumbled off and caught up with some other Navy fellas and we partied at the Waterfront and I pretty much got snatched off them by this chick. Danced with her for a while. She had to go home so said good bye. Then I ditched my Navy mates for a bit and went to Bungalow 8 where a bunch of Air Force dudes I met previously said they were going. That was fantastic. Never before have I felt like such a piece of meat surrounded by hungry animals. I felt kinda sorry for all the other guys in the place, because there were so many dudes in uniform that the civilian guys did not have a chance with any of the girls, hah. It was pretty extreme.

I met up with the rest of the crew later on and we merged with the Air Force crew from Bungalow 8 and partied until about 0400h. By that time there were 5 Navy and 3 Air Force left and town was dying town (Friday nights are not the best town nights), plus we were all very tired from being partying for such a long time. And yeah, after all that, the only phone number I got was from this random dude in his 50s who was very drunk dancing with everyone on the d-floor when he gave me his business card.

Faaaaaaark. Amazing night. I love the military. I spent way too much money!

Well, I have a lot of study to do so take care! :)
