To his grandfather the Count Piotr Vorkosigan
Miles had just failed his physical test to get in to the military academy and the Count suspected foul play on the part of the "plebs".

"(...) XXX gets a tip-off that his old man was murdered by the uncle. Unfortunately, he can't tell if his informant is telling truth or lies. So he spends the next five acts blundering around getting nearly the whole cast killed while he dithers."

Who is describing a play to whom?
In which book?

Optional quesiton:
If you want you can say who is XXX/ what play is being described.

But you wont get a half point bonus for that... :P

That was fast!

You are correct as usual, but only one sherlock and the next quote. Hamlet was already found on another thread. So now I have given my source and given the exact quote. I ahd to change it a bit there so it was not so obviously a play.
Human is as human does....Animals don't weep, Nine

Is it:

Miles, Mark, and Brother in Arms?
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animating contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you,

Book? The Vor Game
Who is he? Stanis Metzov
Who is I? Miles, after he paraded around Aslunder station with Admiral Oser, and got sniped at by Metzov. (Recognized the quote at once, but couldn't remember Stanis-darling's last name without looking it up.) :)

Yes :-). Stanis-darling would be correct answer, also :-).

I'm surprised by your taste, as far as men are concerned. I did not imagine you so like Cavilo

Not much like Cavilo, but the "Stanis-darling" stuck in my head far longer than Metzov.
"The Jacksonians will sell anything to anyone. Xxx made enough enemies there in some of our old sorties- if they knew it was intended for xxx, they'd probably offer a deep discount."
What book?
Who is speaking?
Who is Xxx (xxx is a pronoun related to Xxx)?

In fact that was meant for RK! She was the one who said that "Stanis-darling" was OK!
"The Jacksonians will sell anything to anyone. Xxx made enough enemies there in some of our old sorties- if they knew it was intended for xxx, they'd probably offer a deep discount."
What book? Winterfair Gifts
Who is speaking? Taura speaking to Roic
Who is Xxx (xxx is a pronoun related to Xxx)? Miles

However, since I will shortly be away for two weeks and won't be able to do the follow up on the answers, I suggest you (Suzette) post another one (and I promise I won't answer it, even if I know the answer!)

Correct, a sherlock to you, and here's the next quote:
"I don't trust you, Xxx."
"Well, you're stuck with me.I can't be removed except by the Emperor's own Voice which appointed me, or a three-quarters vote of impeachment by the Council of Counts and the Council of Ministers in full joint session assembled, something I don't think you can arrange."

Which book?
Who's speaking first?
Who is Xxx?

I thought for sure the addition would make it a lot easier to place.

In the interest of speeding things up, I'll add a little more:
"I don't trust you, Xxx."
"Well, you're stuck with me.I can't be removed except by the Emperor's own Voice which appointed me, or a three-quarters vote of impeachment by the Council of Counts and the Council of Ministers in full joint session assembled, something I don't think you can arrange."
"Then it would be quite useless for me to go to Gregor and request a different Auditor for this case."
I hope that gets some responses. I get a little disappointed when I keep seeing my name as the most recent post. :)
