Why would it hurt? It would hurt because he'd just been stabbed by Martou, saw the Sister goddess remove the curse from Iselle's house, and came back to consciousness. I think the sword was still in him at that point, so yeah, giggling would be bad.

I started off looking at Mark in ACC when Gorge got out after the dinner party, and in Mirror Dance around the time he was in Ryovel's hands, but no luck. Once I'd determined that it wasn't Mark or Miles (couldn't recall a time that Miles was hurt and inclined to giggle), it seemed fairly obvious that it was Caz.

RK, I think we've done this one before... or at least, the Tasteless part. Maybe that one started with Tasteless and went on to the back-country hick?

Well, I knew the answer instantly and it was because it had been done before, because when it was done before I hadn't had a clue where that quote was from.

I certainly don't think I deserve a Sherlock for it... so I think you should just post another quote. Any other opinions? Players? Moderators?

Well, I'd say, do as risi suggested.
If a quote is in fact a repeat, but the person who answers did not realise it and guessed the answer independently, then there is no point double-checking, grnat the sherlock and the next quote.
But i this case clearly risi remembered it from this thread and she herself did not claim the sherlock, since she suggested you post a new one.
Maybe a half-point bonus point as reward for being honest? Would an administrator agree with that? Anyway that can be settled after you post a new quote.
By the way, this is indeed a repeat, starting from "Tasteless" exactly as risi wrote. And RK, you had asked it

I actually have a question about Reede's first quote, and risi's response. According to the rules (as I read them when trying to figure out if I was ok to respond to risi's quote), the poster has to wait 5 days after their quote is guessed to guess again, not just until the following quote is guessed. Did I misread the rule, or would risi have to wait 3-4 more days before being able to guess a Sherlock, even though the quote I posted was sherlocked within 24 hours?

Not trying to get risi into trouble, just trying to understand the rules for next time.

And I don't think I ever tried to figure out whose grave it was in Mirror Dance. Thanks for enlightening me! (Now it won't lurk at the back of my head while I'm re-reading Mirror Dance).

Concerning the "5-days rule", as I understand it, it is only for the first quote after one's own. The rule is really that one may not answer the quote just after one's own, but after 5 days this quote is deemed "cold" and one can answer it (I should say "cool", not "cold", the latter meaning it has been waiting so long anyone should be allowed to offer a new one).
However, in a rapid exchange when a third party found the quote in just a few hours one can answer the one offered by the third party even within a day of one's own quote.
The rationale is to prevent the game of becoming a two-players one, two experts exchanging very hard quotes without leaving time to any third party to play.
If we notice that the game is indeed confiscated by three experts who turn round and round without leaving time to other players we could decide here to change the exclusion rule in this game to forbid that, too, but so far this does not seem to be the case. We had two newcomers recently, JKCade and Ragua, so the rule as it stands seems to work fine.

Ok, I think there's an error in the example then. In the example, it looks like Torybear can't answer on Day 5 because of the 5 day rule, but I think it was supposed to read

Day 5- Sneaky bunny cannot answer.

Originally, I was thinking Torybear couldn't answer because it had been less than 5 days since her last answer, but then MK wouldn't have been able to answer on Day 4 (presuming that MK had to answer in order to be able to post, and didn't just start the thread).

So yeah, "clear as mud" definitely covered it for me. I'll take your assessment as the way it works, not the 5 day wait, no matter what, that I'd read into it.

So no tennis matches.

Well, yes, I think the example is wrong.
The point where Toryear cannot answer is on Day 3, after Sneaky Bunny posts, before Mk guesses correctly.
Note that Mk guessed on Day 4 after having posted on Day 1, less than 5 days after posting (but not on Torybear's post, he was not allowed to guess that one, only on Sneaky Bunny's). On Day 5 it was Sneaky Bunny who was not allowed to answer MK's quote.

Note that the count of 5 days does not start from the time the old quote is guessed but from the time the new quote is posted, so a third party has 5 full days to guess.

Again I agree that if one does notice that the game turns into a three-players roundabout one should change the rules to avoid that. But as long as it is not the case and many players have a chance to participate, I think that an artificial "you can't answer twice within 5 days"-rule is not needed, it will just slow down the game.
