Haha. Yes there were four houses on each of the three red properties which couldn't hold that many by themselves. Thus, DEVELOPMENTS were invented.

But does it just mean that there are in fact 4 houses on each red, just you arrange them in a nice line, or does "development" mean one has to pay to the owner of the reds if one falls on the "Chance" case?
I used to put the fourth house further down, but on the exact case. Sometimes you don't have exactly as many houses on each property.

I thought it might be some "alternate" rule.
If there is no ambiguity, i.e. 12 houses in all, of course it does not matter where people put things, but what if there are 10 or 11? How do you remember which has 3 and which has 4? If you have four just on Illinois Avenue (I just checked the Atlantic City board in Wikipedia, I have a Paris board at home, of course), and 3 on the two others, where do you put it so you don't get confused?

With 4 on each, I do it the way Moonwolf does.**

With 4 on only one (or two), the 4th goes on the property, under the other 3 houses.

** Rarely happens. If I can afford 4 houses on each, my commercial-real-estate-mogul tendencies come to the fore and up go the hotels.

Sorry, I meant to be more clear in my answer. No, there's no rent on chance, just a nice little line. And games can become pretty intense especially when you're snowed into a cabin for 6 days as we were when that picture was taken.

OK, quite clear now. I must say, in most games I played, just as laurie describes, it was not frequent to stay long with 4 houses on each of three properties. Whoever could afford that many could usually afford to buy hotels and most often did. But as far as I remember, we would still leave the 4th house on the property in those rare cases.

On the subject of interesting ways to play games, on the same trip we got bored with Scrabble half way through and decided to make up words - only one rule: if you can define it, then its a word.

I share your interest in "funris" and "fagirth", I would also add "mocd" and either "twot" or "usurn" in my list.
But if you look carefully, the "T" of "turd" is next to an "O", the "U" forms uturn (with no hyphen) with "twot", or maybe "usurn" with "twos", or maybe two words I don't recognize. But in any case, there is a blank separating "turd" from the "R" above it.

Also, assuming "quit" was written first, how did they get to "womeikeaquit"? That needs 8 additional letters!

Okay, let me see if I can answer all your questions lol.

DL I believe was short for on the "down low"
XS was short for extra small
Funris - a happy version of the Viking mythical wolf
Fagirth - don't remember
rturd was actually "turd" but the board got moved around so the r looks like its apart of turd. I believe you all know what a turd is.
mocd - I have a friend with the last name 'Moc' so its like "You got Moc'd" although I don't know what that entails
twot - hmm.... lets just say its slang for a female body part

Yes, quit was put first. And then I got rather upset because i could spell IKEA (amazing store) but there was no where to put it. So my friend put it above quit for me. Then, we completely gave up on rules at this point and added me to it. Then Wo was added. Don't know why these were added but by the end of this creation, we realized that the word made perfect sense to us.

Well, your wife is quite pretty indeed, and you are quite nice too. But what makes this picture so good is not so much either of you, but the complicity one sees between the two of you.

BTW is she of russian descent? She reminds me of an actress, now french, but very much of russian descent Macha Meril. Same smile under high cheekbones. (sorry, no Wiki site in english)

Well, like many of us American she is quite a mix. Her maiden name is Ivanitch and she claims Russian, Polish, French, Scottish, and Yugoslavian ancestry. As far as the Yugoslavian part, she's not sure if it Serbian, Croatian, or any one of the others.

I'm definitely a mut. Norwegian, German, Swiss, English, Irish, Scottish, Welsh, Danish, French, and a tiny bit of Native American. The cool thing is that I'm a descendant of Thomas Jefferson. Although I'd rather just be full norwegian. Most people think I am anyway.
