Yes, I think the Sherlock should be split between us. When I read Ragua's post and saw that he had almost all of it, I was reluctant to post... except that I've been days looking for this quote and it'd been driving me crazy!
Actually, I'd even be quite willing to let Ragua have the next quote.
But I still think it was a great quote -- it had enough clues within it to be found, but one really had to think and work. Great fun!!
It was, indeed, a difficult quote to find. Unfortunately for me, my copy of Ethan of Athos has been MIA since I started playing this game. The broadening of the quote was definitely a give-away, but without the book, there's no way I could have answered the rest of the questions.
Still fun to look for it while the book title was unsure, of course. I love this game.
In Winterfair Gifts, Lady Vorpatril is getting Taura clothes for "the wedding".

"I told them to use their initiative," X murmured vaguely, groping for inspiration in a throbbing fog.
Y snorted. "A safe order to give a Z. At least you're sure to be obeyed."
X, Y, Z and book.

"So I can wake in the morning both aaa-bbb and with a hangover?" Granted, he couldn't imagine getting to sleep under any other circumstances, apart from a blow to the head.
"Well, it worked for me, once. The hangover is a fair trade for being so immobilized one cannot do anything stupid for a little while"
Book?
First speaker?
Second speaker?
what does aaa-bbb stand for?
Human is as human does....Animals don't weep, Nine
Book? Curse of Chalion
First speaker? Cazaril
Second speaker? Umegat
what does aaa-bbb stand for? demon-ridden

I did recognize it immediately but I had to go find it in the book to be sure that it was demon-ridden and not god-infested... it could have been either.

Indeed! I should have put that as a bonus, so you could have broken the 5 minutes record with the main answer and come back with the bonus within the hour
Anyway, it is correct so the next quote is yours, but only one full sherlock since I did not offer a bonus.
Human is as human does....Animals don't weep, Nine
"Why, XXX. That was clever," said YYY, sounding rather astonished. XXX's brow wrinkled. A little less astonishment would have been a little more complimentary.
Am I allowed to guess again this soon? It would truly be a guess, since a good half of my Bujold collection has been lent out in the hopes of creating new aficionados.

Yes. Ghost answered your post, so as soon as Ghost's post was answered you were eligible to answer again, even if the round did go really fast. Have a go!
