Should I offer a hint, or give it a bit more time?

IMHO: I say give it fives days . . . let more people a chance to log in and get into the game.

I know others want hints on the hour every hour. :P

It's familiar, but I don't have any specific guesses. Probably because I've been busy reading new-to-me books instead of hunting for quotes.

I'll confess, I'm completely stumped on this one... I can't even decide what series/universe it's likely to be from.

I think most of us give a hint before the 5 days are up for the previous poster, in case they know it and are just waiting. But that's not a rule, you can do whatever you feel comfortable with.

I'll give a little hint now, and a bigger one later, if it turns out to be necessary: It's from the Chalion universe.

"It's a wondrous transmutation, where the blood of one man is turned into the money of another. Lead into gold is nothing to it."
Book? Curse of Chalion
Who is speaking? Caz
To whom is this person speaking? Iselle (and Umegat, and probably Beatriz)
What is the subject under discussion? The spoils of war (and how something gained by lives can be sold in treaties, specifically, Gotorget)

The other possibilities had to do with Mark and the clone industries on Jackson's Whole, but as soon as you said Chalion, I knew where to look. :)

Xxx's eyes were closed in smug content.
Book?
Who is Xxx?
Why is Xxx content?

Hmm... not coming up with a good way to add onto it without making it completely obvious, so I'll offer a few hints:

1) It's in the Vorkosiverse.
2) XXX is not a main character. The character only appears on Barrayar itself.

God, thought YYY jealously, if I had half the sex-appeal of that bloody Xxx I'd have more girlfriends than ZZZ
Book?
Who is Xxx?
Why is Xxx content?

I'm hoping that doesn't make it completely obvious, but I'm fairly sure it does. :(

Well, not as obvious as you might have thought! I had figured out that it was an animal, but I had myself convinced that it was Zap. After you added the thought that follows, I realized it couldn't be Zap since I just couldn't find a scene were she was being cossetted.

Book? the novella Mountains of Mourning in the book Borders of Infinity
Who is Xxx? Ninny aka Fat Ninny (and horse in the thought)
Why is Xxx content? Because all the young girls of Silvy Vale were fussing over him and adoring him.

BTW, YYY is Miles and ZZZ is Ivan... though they were obvious!

Yeah, it's hard for people to cozy up to Zap when she's always scratching people. :) I hope she (or her offspring) are in the next book. :)

You owe me that much.

Book?
Who is speaking (me)?
To whom (you)?
What is owed?

Now, I think this is a shockingly easy one, even with so little given. But in case I'm wrong, I'll only wait 2 days before adding to it...

Book? Diplomatic Immunity
Who is talking? Miles
To whom? Ekaterin
Who else are there? Bel Thorne, and Seeler Greenlaw (think the spelling on that is off, but everything else I tried looks wrong too), and probably some other people as well.

Xxx went on, "It seems I'd need a boat to do it now, and I don't want to risk setting fire to the boat I'm sitting in. "
What book?
Who is Xxx?
Why would Xxx need a boat?

What book? = Memory
Who is Xxx? = Miles
Why would Xxx need a boat? = He wanted to burn an offering on Raina's grave, but it's underwater because of the new reservoir.

Correct! You're up!

I thought about stopping the quote after the "I'd need a boat to do it now", but thought I should finish the sentence.
