Correct, James. Your turn!
The Princess Bride.
Not just your basic, average, everyday, ordinary, run-of-the-mill, ho-hum fairy tale.

Barrayar
Aral is speaking to Cordelia, both are discussing Carl Vorhalas duelling. (Did you mean who is he speaking to, or whom are they speaking about?)
XX is really XXII ;) I immediately recognized the "crime" was
Spoiler: show
duelling and Aral meant his own killing of his wife's lovers
; but it is a good thing I checked before answering, I thought XX was exactly 20!
Order of magnitude correct, but not quite.

"Mine is not a theology of the elect. I intend to preach to the masses. Even," he was definitely getting into the swing of this, "the sinners.(...)"
Book?
Who is talking?
To whom?

Bonus: name a sinner.

Book?Borders of Infinity (the short story within the book of the same name)
Who is talking? Brother Miles
To whom?Oliver, future commander (with Tris, of course) of the Marlacan resistance

Bonus: name a sinner: Suegar, Beatrice, Tris, Oliver (I'd add Pitt, but he didn't make it that far)

The next quote is yours, Suzette!

By "sinner" I did mean Pitt and his gang: "Brother Miles" intended to preach to them, too, he says so in many places. He wants unity, not revenge or even justice.
Spoiler: show
It was only because of an emergency that he "sacrified" Pitt, and he said about he latter's death "Make no mistake, that is a loss for our side."
Well, you did mention him, too. So one and a half sherlock.

I included everyone else because, by that time, rather a lot of them had committed atrocities as a result of their poor conditions. It was definitely not a happy place.

Anyway...

I cannot bear another night of not knowing. Before the light failed. Before my heart fails.

Not knowing what?

Can't check, I don't have my books at hand, but I'll try Ista in "Paladin of Souls", when she's about to ask her god for the gift of second sight to see what exactly happens to Illvin ?

I'm pretty sure it's in one of the first two books of Chalion, anyway. But growing less sure by the moment...

In fact, it's not Ista in Paladin of Souls. But it is a pretty good guess. :)

What book? The Curse of Chalion.
Who is thinking this? Cazaril.
Not knowing what? If the Dowager Provincara will see him after his long walk and grant him refuge.

I had thought it was Ista as well when I first read it.

It's... familiar. I'm just not placing it (which is probably good, since I have the 5 day limit before I can post anyway). :)

A little more.

"Excellant! That was fast. Uh...how?"

Sorry about the whole XYZ thing, but that would have made it too obvious.

Are XXX, YYY, and ZZZ proper nouns, or is the upper case lettering not indicative of anything in particular?

Or is that information only available in the next hint? ;)

Oh crud. Proper noun? Uhm, let me ask my daughter who is in her junior year of college, studying to be an English teacher. Ok, yep, they are proper nouns, LOL! And I don't know why I capitalized each letter, fingers were faster than normal. 8)

Ok, a little more.
"I trust this is important. And brief. Or I'm going to emerge to find AAA-BBB CCC waiting for an exit interview."
"It's important." Her blue eyes seemed to blaze. "I know which XXX YYY is the ZZZ now!"
"Excellant! That was fast. Uh...how?"
AAA and BBB are terms, not people names.
CCC is a persons name.
XXX, YYY, and ZZZ are terms, not people names.

Book?
Who is speaking?
Who is being spoken to?
What are they discussing?

Way easier with these details.

From "Cetaganda" :

Miles : "I trust this is important. And brief. Or I'm going to emerge to find ghem-Colonel Benin waiting for an exit interview."
Rian Degtiar : "It's important." Her blue eyes seemed to blaze. "I know which Satrap Lord is the traitor now!"
Miles :"Excellant! That was fast. Uh...how?"

Discussing which Cetagandan lord was ready to go a little further than the other in betraying their imperium by stealing the key to their genome.

99% correct! It was "satrap governor", not lord, but as this one has been up a while, I'm sure no one is going to complain! :D Congratulations! And your up!

While we are on the subject (and I apologize for going off the main quote topic) I was wondering something: we have players in this game from several different countries. Are you all bi-lingual, and can speak and read English in addition to your native tounge, or is this website automatically translated into your launguage by some computer server on the Web? Probably a silly question, but still.

On topic :
Has it occurred to anyone yet that we're tackling this problem from the wrong end?
Which book ?
Who is speaking ?
What is the problem ?

Bonus : What is the solution ?

Off topic : this forum isn't translated, and I for one (and I suspect all presents) can read and write in English in addition to my native tongue. Now, speaking is another problem ^^.
