Kindness had nothing to do with it.
Which book?
Who is thinking or saying this?
About what?
The Princess Bride.
Not just your basic, average, everyday, ordinary, run-of-the-mill, ho-hum fairy tale.

Here's a longer quote:
Kindness had nothing to do with it. "X certainly went to great pains to make it as attractive a proposition as possible."

Ha, I was sure I had it, and was just waiting the five days to post the answer, but your hint made me realize the quote I was thinking of was "Kindness has nothing to do with it", which appears in a different book altogether ^^. Good one, Blackwing !

If the inquisitor posts an additional hint, does that reset the 5-day grace period for the previous inquisitor to the full 5 days?

No it does not.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animating contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you,

Well, then :
Kindness has nothing to do with it
^^

Ok, some hints :
1) It's in the Vorkosiverse
2) Miles appears in the book
3) Neither Miles nor any of his family said it

Ok, this is a guess because even though I was reading the book last week, I can't find it right now.
Book: Komarr
Speaker: Venier to Ekaterin during his marriage proposal. With Miles listening out on the balcony.

Do I win, or do I just cross this idea off someone else's list of places to look? ;)
Waiting patiently for the next Lois McMaster Bujold book.

Ok, here's the new quote:
X glanced aside in concern at his muffled snort. "Are you all right?"

"Yes. Sorry," Y whispered. "I'm just having an attack of Z."
Book, X, Y and Z

Book?
Who is Xxx?
Who/what is/are "the Yyys"?

James

P.S. Has anyone ever heard someone actually SAY, "daren't"? Just curious. :D

Who is Zzz? Taura (Number Nine)

Without checking, just off the top of my deteriorating memory.

P.S. I'll bet my Cantonese is much worse than your Flemish! Let alone Mandarin!
