Next quote:
"My mother gave it to me." He tried not to smirk.

Book?
Who is "he"?
What is "it"?

I cannot check just right now, but I'd guess

In "Mirror Dance", Mark telling Miles of the jumpship Cordelia gave him?

Yep, that's it! You're up.

I thought it would be a little less obvious than that. Ah well. :)

By the way, Caroline, I posted my Sherlock along with voralfred's, to try to keep it all in order (since he got it so fast).

Well, when I checked I did not find it where I expected it, at the end, when Mark finally is reunited with Miles. But I was convinced, somehow, it was really Mark about the ship, so I backtracked, and I finally found it: before they leave, he tells this to Elli Quinn. But since you did not ask to whom it was said, just who said it and about what, I guess I did deserve the sherlock.

New quote:
'And... and how big does this XXX have to be, Sir?'
Book?
Who/what is XXX?
Who is "Sir"?
Human is as human does....Animals don't weep, Nine

This feels unfair because I just reread this yesterday, but the book is Memory, XXX is an elephant, and the speaker is talking to Simon Illyan.

All is fair in love and war and the LMBQG!
We should all reread all the books everyday, so don't feel guilty, you are the one who did your duty.
So one sherlock and the next quote ;)

X patted Y on the neck. "If anybody asks," he murmured, "I'll tell them your name is Chieftain."

The Provincara dy Baocia in Valenda, to Cazaril telling her he has no right to the title "castillar" anymore. In The Curse of Chalion.

And thanks, SPetty, for posting your Sherlock, I'm sorry I forgot.

My apologies (again) for the delay, I really shouldn't play with no internet at home, but, well... addiction ^^

So, next one :
An artist describing the defacement of some great historic painting could hardly have been more vehement.
Whose thought ? About who/what ? In which book ?

I haven't looked it up to check, but I think this is right.

Whose thought ? Ekaterin
About who/what ? Auditor Vorthys, talking about the soletta mirror accident
In which book ? Komarr

I actually did look it up after I'd posted because I thought there was a chance that it was Miles, not Ekaterin (since both did talk to Auditor Vorthys about the soletta array).

Anyway, next quote:
"Actually, it was a pretty stupid battle."
Book?
Speaker?
What battle?

This is probably going to make it much too easy, but here it is:
" You're talking about XXX, aren't you? It was a great tragedy, but a great battle." Sympathy shone in her eyes like starlight.
"Actually, it was a pretty stupid battle."
Book?
1st Speaker?
2nd speaker?
What is XXX?

Ok, another hint: it's not from the Chalion series

Ok, so it's Neeta to Dag, XXX being Wolf Ridge, in TSK Horizon. When she's trying to seduce him into returning to New Moon Cutoff.

Yes, it is! You're up! (Guess my hints didn't make it as easy as I'd thought, but adding Dag's follow up sentence about recovering from blood loss for two weeks seemed a dead giveaway. I don't think anyone else in any of LMB's books has a stated two week recovery from a battle.)

Well, I would say without checking: Ekaterin Niles Vorvaine Vorsoisson, not ready yet to start a new relationship, so soon after not so much Tienne's death as the disaster he represented.
You did not ask what book, but I'd say in _CC_ rather than Komarr (but since you did not ask, it should be a win for me even if she thought that in Komarr ;) )
