Who is the speaker (or thinker)?
Who is referred to by 'his'?Which book?
Miles reasons about an unknown murderer of Ba Lura.
Cetaganda

E Pericoloso Sporgersi, you're so kind to answer me in Russian. Thanks!

The next quote is:

"Friends, friends, don't fire, we're all friends here!"
Who talks?
Who are whose friends?
What book is this scene from?

By memory and without checking:
In _EoA_, Elli Quinn is calling at the Bharaputran thugs not to shoot her and Ethan (I don't remember whether Terrence Cee is present at that time or not). Since their common enemy is Millisor & Cie, they are indeed "all friends" though this friendship is as strained as Elli's elbow will soon be... Though they will be "friendly" enough to strain the elbow of her less-useful arm (left one if she is right-handed, or the reverse?)

You're entirely right, of course.

Hey Voralfred, glad to have you back, with a correct answer to boot. That means you survived the storm and the skiing OK, and that I can jump into the fray once again without waiting for the 5-day grace period.
Now please shake a leg (the one without a gypsum cast) and give us our next hurdle, will you?

P.S. I wonder what's keeping Caroline?

OK, OK, here it is:
"Couldn't you tell?" chuckled XXX.
"Not really."
Book?
XXX?
Second speaker?
What is it, that XXX thought obvious, but was not so obvious to the second speaker?

I don't immediately recognise this.
Somewhere in The Sharing Knife?
I do imagine this bliss of female fingers lightly scratching my back (oh yes <purr>, now an inch higher and a bit to the right please), which suggests to me that Dag could very well be the first speaker and Fawn replying "Not really" while she's lightly scratching his skin.
Did Dag mean his ticklish spot?

Arde Mayhew to Elena Bothari in The Warrior's Apprentice, when the effect of the amphet syrup wore off on Miles (and he is absolutely horrified to hear that no, Elena couldn't tell that Miles was on stimulant, 'cause he's like that ALL THE TIME ^^)

I really thought that this one would need some hints later, but you found it as it stood!

It was one of those precious and glorious moments of funny for me, so yeah, I remembered ;) The dead-pan answer of Elena to the expecting-to-be-joking Arde...

So, next one, not too hard :
"...the kindest word I can come up with for it is blunder...
Who, to whom, about what ?

Cordelia describes uncomplimentary her son's treatment of Ekatherin. Speaking to Miles, of course.

[This person's] first impression was of a faceless, ominous blur of colorful forms, like a garden of carnivorous flowers.
Who is "this person"? Also name the book and the scene, please.

Re: LMB Quote Game

Post by voralfred »

Well, since I want to post anyway I'll give it a try:

In "Beguilement", Fawn's first impression of the Malice, in its lair.

But I am almost sure I am wrong, the Malice was not faceless, as I think I remember.

So since my answer is most probably wrong, what about some hint, Jetta, please?
Personally, I prefer to give hints just before the five days are through, to leave everyone a small (one or one and a half day) advantage over the previous winner, in the spirit of the anti-ping-pong rule. But 5 days before the hint is fine, too.

I think the hint would be well-timed by now.
The named person wasn't thrown to the lions' cage, not at all, but visited a grand social venue.

I've had absolutely no luck finding it so far. I thought I had it with the hint, but it wasn't there either.

Good choice! It's more fun when it's challenging.
Waiting patiently for the next Lois McMaster Bujold book.

The hint seems to point to "Cetaganda" but I did not find it at " The 149th Annual Bioesthetics Exhibition, Class A" nor at Yenaro's, nor at "Singing Open The Great Gates "... So I gave up...

Maybe just one more day before the next hint? I'd say 2-3 days before each new hint is a good rythm.

No, it happened at another world. Not Cetaganda.

Second hint:
In this scene the character was accompanied by the person who was at the same situation a few decades ago but now encourages him/her.

I haven't checked, but... isn't it Mark at his first social event on Barrayar (the Emperor's birthday, I think), coached by his mother ? In Mirror Dance, the evening he met Kareen for the first time ?

Who is the speaker, who is XXX, what are the circumstances ?
