LMB Quote Game

Re: LMB Quote Game
Mine, too! I thought I had it, but then, it wasn't where I thought it was. (This happens to me more and more frequently as time goes on, unfortunately).
Waiting patiently for the next Lois McMaster Bujold book.

This is unbelievably difficult to participate in when you only have the audiobooks.
I'm afraid I'll be doomed to eavesdropping on your game forever.

You don't have to be sure to be right to answer. If you think you remember, you can just try, and if you are wrog there is no shame to it!

And some more, again.
"You did it to yourself." Yyy, reminded, rubbed his chin upon which the bruise was fading to a green shadow. and glowered.
"I lost my perspective for a little while, it's true," Xxx admitted. "I've got it back."
"A bit late," sneered Yyy.
"But I could do a good job," argurd Xxx, wondering how one could achieve the effect of a hangdog shuffle in freefall. Better not overdo it.

Woops, apparently by answering I grabbed the conch for myself. Let's try this one:
Book?
1/2 Point Question: Which two items were on the shopping list?
Thank you to voralfred for pointing out my fox poise before it went on any longer.
XXX is just an adjective that narrows it a bit far for round one."But of course," he breathed, "Every XXX lady goes to the capitol to shop."

Ok, ok, calm down, voralfred wrote:... Because she is shouting at you "All this is quite fine, but what about posting a new quote on the LMBQG?"
Especially not waiting for a Parisian traffic light to turn green.
I found a good quote, I think.
Book title?"My father," [she/he] murmured, "was always a man of great - principles."
Who speaks?
Whom does she/he speak to?
For a bonus ½ Sherlock: Who is 'my father'? Exact name, please.
That's it, guys. Have at it.
P.S. and BTW,
What does 'conch' mean in this context? Something like 'the ball's in your court'?Pragmataraxia wrote:... You've got the conch.

Book title? Brothers in Arms

My, you're fast.
And quite correct to boot, in all details.
Darn, how can I ever hope to catch up?
<paranoid suspicion> Have you been peeping over my shoulder or through my webcam?
Never mind </suspicion>, the 1.5 Sherlocks and the next quote are yours.

Re: LMB Quote Game
Indeedn that was fast! Much less than 5 days for two questions.
Pragmataraxia, you are allowed to answer James's (=JKCade's) question as soon as he posts it, no need to wait 5 days, that applied only on EPS's quote because he had answered yours.

Re: LMB Quote Game
Not fast, just that that particular conversation has stuck in my mind for some reason. I apologize for the delay in getting the next quote out, I was out of town for a couple of days unexpectedly. Here we go:
Who is speaking?
Who is Yyy?
Who/what is Zzz?
Xxx is an honorific, or title.
James
Book?"Go ahead then, Xxx Yyy, release the Zzz, let it up."
Who is speaking?
Who is Yyy?
Who/what is Zzz?
Xxx is an honorific, or title.

Re: LMB Quote Game
This will give it away.
Book?
Who is speaking?
Who is Aaa?
Who is Bbb?
Who is Yyy?
Who/what is Zzz?
Xxx is an honorific, or title.
James
Aaa moved her stool over to face Xxx Yyy, very conscious of Bbb's strong, limp body laid out by her skirts. "Go ahead then, Xxx Yyy, release the Zzz, let it up."
Book?
Who is speaking?
Who is Aaa?
Who is Bbb?
Who is Yyy?
Who/what is Zzz?

Re: LMB Quote Game
Indeed! The short quote sent me on wrong directions, btu the long one I guessed at once. What took longer is locate the book, since I was unsure as whose body was limp at that time... In fact I expected the other one!JKCade wrote:This will give it away.![]()
Book? Paladin of Souls
Who is speaking? Ista
Who is Aaa? Also Ista
Who is Bbb? Arhys
Who is Yyy? (Lady) Cattilara
Who/what is Zzz? the demon

Re: LMB Quote Game
I suspect part of it is that I was looking in the wrong places. I was sure the "it" referred to either the ba from Cetaganda, or the ba from Diplomatic Immunity (or possibly Bel from Warrior's Apprentice, when Miles first met it). I didn't even think of the demon.JKCade wrote:Correct! Congratulations! I honestly didn't expect that one to go as long as it did.

As to Voralfred's new quote, it's not ringing any bells, or sending postcards. My first thought was Vordarian in Barrayar, but it seems unlikely we'd actually get that kind of statement from him, and since it's a thought anyway, it's incredibly unlikely.
Though I wish the quote box didn't have the huge " at the front of it. It automatically makes me think the new quote starts with someone speaking.
Waiting patiently for the next Lois McMaster Bujold book.

Miles, thinking of HIS dendarii fleet as a lever, at the beginning of "Mirror Dance". He is then "at the Capitoline Hill", at the top, but dies in the first half of the book, thus falling from the "Tarpeian Rock". One can also argue that since the Tarpeian Rock was the place from which traitors were thrown to their death, it happens more fittingly in Memory, when Miles is "thrown" from the imperial service to the second death of Admiral Naismith.

Well, technically you are right, but in French that particulartwist is usually not taken into account. From the top to all the way down, yes, but usually just because of hubris, not for a specific crime, let alone treason.Caroline Tredez wrote: One can also argue that since the Tarpeian Rock was the place from which traitors were thrown to their death, it happens more fittingly in Memory, when Miles is "thrown" from the imperial service to the second death of Admiral Naismith.

Hunh. I never thought that "It" could apply to SO MANY of LMB's charecters! LOL! I wonder if I can use this to my advantage next time it's my turn?!?!

Sorry, this is probably only salient for people who were beaten with Lord of the Flies, but it indicates your turn to have your say. I believe in the council session in Legacy it was a stick, but a conch is so much more identifiable.E Pericoloso Sporgersi wrote:P.S. and BTW,What does 'conch' mean in this context?
