Re: LMB Quote Game
Yes, SPetty was right, sorry for the delay, the next quote is yours.
Re: LMB Quote Game
It was in a larger paragraph than I was skimming for.
Even after knowing it was there somewhere, I almost skimmed by it again.
Anyway, next quote:
Who is speaking?
To Whom?
Is the person planning to stay?
Anyway, next quote:
Which book?"You're not, um...planning to stay, are you?"
Who is speaking?
To Whom?
Is the person planning to stay?
Waiting patiently for the next Lois McMaster Bujold book.
Re: LMB Quote Game
This can only be Miles talking to Ivan.... and of course Ivan plans to stay....
Now what book...?
Here I have a small hesitation. But I believe it is in _Memory_.

Actually, it's not. Try again.

Re: LMB Quote Game
You mean, just not in _Memory_, or not Miles to Ivan at all?
Assuming the former case, I'll try:
Miles to Ivan in _CC_

Re: LMB Quote Game
I can imagine Miles saying it to Gregor in The Vor Game.
I can also think of Cordelia's second in command asking her this in Shards of Honor.

OMG, EPS, you just made me find the light!
"Shards" and the person staying (yes, she does plan to stay, at least 30 years and counting) being Cordelia, yes indeed, but the speaker is...
(listen to the drums rolling...)
....Aral when she arrives in Vorkosigan Surleau!

Yes, of course.voralfred wrote:OMG, EPS, you just made me find the light!
Dammit!
I should have done less pretending to think and done more actual thinking.
Re: LMB Quote Game
Keep guessing. None of the current guesses are where I located the current quote.

If you are planning to, um ... NOT stay us, could you maybe give us a little hint, pretty please?SPetty wrote:Keep guessing. None of the current guesses are where I located the current quote.
Re: LMB Quote Game
Ok, none of the current guesses have either the right book, or the right people. So it doesn't involve Miles, or Aral, or Cordelia, or Ivan, or Cordelia's second in command.
I think that reduces the possibilities quite a bit. And it's in the first chapter of the book.

Yep! Alas, it's hard to know when you've hinted too much.

OK!
So, next one:
Speaker?
What was it, that the speaker had not yet heard (contrary to a previous assumption)
So, next one:
Book?"I hadn't heard it all."

Re: LMB Quote Game
My question was somewhat tongue-in-cheek, of course. But still ...voralfred wrote:Not particularly.E Pericoloso Sporgersi wrote:Is it said by someone with smelly feet?
Whom did you have in mind ,Or is this some kind of a joke I did not get?
I was thinking that none of the Lakewalker patrollers can afford to have smelly feet. Malices would detect even the most tightly ground-shielded patrollers from far away if they approached from upwind, and mudwolves would be able to easily spoor them.
Had you answered yes, then I could have eliminated Dag and all other patrollers.
Oh well, I'll have to think of something else.
Re: LMB Quote Game
Well other categories you cannot eliminate: Impsec personel in Gregor's household, or in Miles' for that matter, Nikki (Ekaterin would not let him), Ekaterin herself, ....E Pericoloso Sporgersi wrote:

Anyway, in case the quote is now too far up:
Book?"I hadn't heard it all."
Speaker?

Re: LMB Quote Game
In Memory Gregor says this after Miles' description of events concerning Simon's breakdown, thereby noticing that General Haroche has evidently started editing Impsec's reports to Gregor to suit his own agenda.voralfred wrote:Book?"I hadn't heard it all."

Re: LMB Quote Game
No, sorry.
A small hint: it is not just a statement of fact, there is some element of surprise in it.

"..... But I believe I've heard it all, so go on, by all means."
((here are several lines of dialogue and also text describing the mental processes and the reactions of the speaker and another character. At some point the latter does "go on". The speaker's reaction shows that what was said was not what was expected, and leads to following line))
"I hadn't heard it all."
Book?
Speaker?
Other character?
What did the other character say, that the speaker hadn' t heard before?

hehe
now I'm sure I have it, but I'm not sure if I have the right to answer yet or no...

Re: LMB Quote Game
OK, Caroline, now you can "go on, by all means..."
By the way, you could have answered long ago!
I got mixed up. It was Suzette's quote I had answered, not yours. Yours had been answered by Suzette. So your 5 days no-answer period was on Suzette's quote, not mine, and you could have answered mine immediately, even before 5 days had elapsed after Suzette's quote. The rule is 5 days on the quote just after yours or till someone else finds it and posts a third one, whichever is shorter. It has happened quite often on this game that a quote is answered within hours (or minutes) and a new quote posted on the same day. Then the person who asked the quote before the rapidly-found quote can still answer immediately.
More clearly:
A posts a quote, answered by B (time elapsed since A's first posted the quote is immaterial).
B posts a new quote; A cannot answer B's quote for 5 days.
C finds B's quote within minutes, B gives the OK, C posts a new quote, all this within one hour of B's posting her/his quote.
A can answer C's quote immediately, even though only one hour, rather than 5 days have elapsed since B's quote.
If B's first answer had also been very rapid, there is a possibility that A can post twice on the same day!
This is according to our present rules. If this were to happen too often, maybe we should amend the rules to avoid "3-persons -frisbee" (A posts, B answers very rapidly and posts, C answers very rapidly and posts, A answers very rapidly and posts, B answers very rapidly and pots, C answers very rapidly and posts, etc. and noone else gets a chance to play) ,in addition to our present "2-persons ping-pong" exclusion, but so far it has not been a problem, so unless it becomes one there is no reason to change the rules.
So my apologies, Caroline, for telling you not to post 36 hours ago, you were in fact allowed to. I just got mixed up, what I wrote was in fact only meant for Suzette.

Re: LMB Quote Game
I'm not a sticker for the rules, I just thought the more, the merrier, so let's always give a little time for others to respond... Anyway I think it's Eli Quinn to Dr Ethan Urquart, when he asks her for an ovary at the end of "Ethan of Athos". Indeed an uncommon request, and not the one she half-expected... :p
