Soviet Russian invasion of Scotland

Soviet Russian invasion of Scotland
Nearly 40 years ago I read a library book the title of which was possibly something similar to Scarlet Autumn or Red Autumn.
I was a novel based in a newly independent Scotland which was invaded by Soviet Russia. The pretext for the invasion was a military exercise but the real purpose became
apparent when a village police sergeant was murdered by russians.
Can anyone please help with the title/author/publisher.
I have tried all the usual suspects, the library can't help their records were confuserised some years ago.
Many thanks in anticipation.

I have looked all over for this, and I see you've posted to several other forums, and it still seems to be unresolved.
Do you have any clue as to the nationality of the author? Such as, do you recall the name being Russian? Can you remember ANY character name from the book? I have found tons of books that almost fit the bill, but not quite.

I had a contact go through the library records for me but most of the fiction records from that period were not transferred to computer from the old card system, she spent days looking but without success.

I know that it isn't excessively polite to start your presence on a forum through necroposting, but I'd be happy to learn the title of that book; has anyone found it since then, be it one of the original posters or someone who arrived later to the forum?

Dear All,
No I've not had any luck at all tracing this elusive book yet.
Thanks for your continued efforts.

I've spent an excessive amount of time looking online, to no avail. Now I'm intrigued, what is that ghost novel?
