A Friesland road plays music.

Post by E Pericoloso Sporgersi »

Drivers in the Netherlands are used to some road surfaces resonating inside their cars with particular sounds and frequencies.

Friesland has gone a step further. Their roads play music when your tyres hit the track at the right speed. (In this clip it's the Friesian Anthem)

Just imagine Beethoven's Fifth or Vivaldi's Spring ...

Creative people are EVERYWHERE!

Have you heard the music played using old floppy drives?

My current favorite is this one which adds the sounds of scanners for high notes.

That's a nice one ! For people with a perfect pitch, driving at the wrong speed must be hard !

I did not even recognize the hardware they are using. What is the thing that moves ? A scanner, you wrote ? When did scanners look like that ?

The bank of floppy drives appear to do the deeper notes.

The scanner was the piece on the left with its "guts" exposed (perhaps for better volume). In front of the floppy drives, several open hard disk drives provided the tapping percussion.

I keep thinking I'll experiment with the process...
...once I learn some electronics.
...once I learn the necessary programming.
...once I take some time for it.

You will also have to find the proper equipement... and that would mean raiding museums, probably ;)

I have about a dozen old floppy drives stashed from equipment left at the side of the road over the years. Wife isn't very happy about it, either. :deviate:

Do you also still have scanners of this type? Each one would be almost as voluminous as 12 floppy drives of this type, no ? Just how uhappy is your wife ?
