That is Leland E. Modesitt, III -- my son. As you can tell from the title of the work, he's an expert financial consultant specializing in the use of high-tech systems.

Since my father died somewhat over a year ago, there are only two Leland Modesitts, so far as I know, although there are still references to the legal works written by my father.

I thought it was more than a coincidence. The name isn't one I would consider the least bit common. While interesting, the article didn't quite touch the issue of order/chaos balance. Hmmm. What does your son, your family for that matter, think of your writings? You've mentioned the influences of your wife's career on the Spellsong series and another family member's work with wood. I wonder if they can read your work and become lost in it as do we, your gentle readers, or do they have a difficult time separating the writing from the well-known writer?

PS: I attended a conference last weekend and saw a TOR booth. I was quite disappointed that they didn't display any of your latest works. They had one copy of one of the Spellsong paperbacks. However, they had the full series of Robert Jordan on display. Hrmph! I let them know how much I appreciate YOUR writings. Hopefully, one of these times, you will be able to attend the American Library Assoc. and be able to sign some of your books.

My eldest son is a great fan of F&SF and has also read every single one of my books, as has my mother and one daughter. My other offspring have read varying amounts of what I've written, and my father read a number, but liked The Green Progression the best.

I was wondering about this myself. Did the Demons use a different type of power source than the Angels or something along those lines? Your insight would be much appreciated Mr. Modesitt. Thanks.

I always figured it was becuase the Demons had planaforming equiqment and much larger "colonizing" group. My belief was that they got wrenched to the planet by an imbalance but were on there way to colonize/planaform. They were to faraway to get back (kind of like Pern) but they could "tame" the environment.

This isn't a question. It's just to notify Mr. Modesitt That he's in first place in the poll I set up. It's a choice of who has the best sci-fi, Asimov, Heinlein and of course Mr. Modesitt. Congrats sir, lets just hope it stays that way.

Hey yo Mr Modesitt!

I was just wondering about the Spell Song Cycle. Is Darksong inherently 'evil' and corruptive or is it just those sort of people who chose to wield it?

Darksong, in itself, theoretically shouldn't be corruptive, but it is both coercive and destructive, and seldom does anything destructive and coercive lead to much good. Besides which, as pointed out, destructive and coercive magics and technologies do tend to attract the most power-hungry and corruptible individuals.

Cyad
Cyador
dangergeld(er)
Corean

I'll do my best, but unlike my wife, I'm no expert in the IPA.

Recluce = Wreck-loose

Cyad = Sigh-add

Cyador = Sigh -add - door

Dangergeld = danger -geld [as both words are pronounced in English
[American style]

Corean = Core-ee-an

What do you mean by that dude? I thought it was because Cyador was invading their lands, and they had to stop them one way or another, or risk getting killed.
