Out There is right!

They have the edge over the first 3.

Not by a lot - but definately a strong edge over Buccaneer & Blood.

Why?
Slightly higher level of "Polish" IMHO slightly better written. They also hang together a little better - The world is more complete and the storylines, While going all over the place - do tends to integrate slightly better.

The edge if any is marginal - and it has been YEARS since I read the 1st 3!

If you do re-read the first three, make sure you get the enlarged version of Magician (about an extra 50,000 words and a bit of polishing) as it helps to develop the world.

I just finished reading book 2 of Melanie Rawn's The Dragon Prince series (The Star Scroll). I'm not going to review it, but I'll rate it. I'm still reading Patricia Cornwell's The Precinct and after that I want to start to re-read The Hobbit and I really want to get into that one book about the torturer that is in one of these other threads (I forgot the name, sorry). I am also tempted to read book 4 of Wheel of Time. It has been a few months since book 3 (I'm trying to space them out so I won't have to wait for the last ones like everyone else).

On second thought, maybe I will review The Star Scroll. It has a very distinct and (in my opinion) annoying feature that probably should be shared.

It's the third time I've gone through the whole series, and I've read a ocuple of books 5 or 6 times.


I'm going to read the Man-Kzin Wars books again.

I just got done reading "Seven Brothers" series and have to say I loved it. It is fantasy written with a asian theme to it. Very good series and would recomend it to anyone. The author is Curt Benjamin.

Currently reading John Irvings small memoir - My Movie Business. All about getting his novel The Cider House Rules translated to the big screen. Very short and interesting. He won an Oscar for best adapted screenplay in the end.

If you've never read a John Irving novel then you are missing out. I suggest A Prayer For Owen Meany - which is one of the most moving books I've ever read. Also great are The World According To Garp, The Hotel New Hampshire and The Cider House Rules. There are more when you've finished those

I'm reading mostly textbooks now, but I just finished a book over winter break called Black Diamond by Susan Holtzer. It's a mystery that takes place in Ann Arbor, so it had some significance to me. It was neat to know all the places the author mentioned!

I loved that book. The movie was actually a dissapointment to me. It changed a lot of things, some mainly to make it more adapted to popculture and less contravesial than the book was. Still I have to say I liked toby maguire and michale cane.

mrdude - you should read the memoir then as it explains - in great detail - all the changes and why they happenned. I haven't seen the movie myself, but after reading the book you understand why it changed to fit the movie format. It took 14 years and four directors to get from book to movie!

Well, I am re-reading one of my favorite online novels ever (even if she hasn't finished it yet, grrr), called "Proving Myself to Them". Quite funny. I elf gets stuck in a mental institution fter getting thrown between the worlds/realities.

Quite a good read, but watch for the pop-ups (I don't know if they still do them I'm a premier member of the site)
